It's not a mistranslation. The word used is indeed the word "brother", the problem is that the oldest reference we have is in greek.

There is no doubt that the greek word is most commonly used for brothers. You can say that the greek mistranslated it, well and how exactly will you prove it?

At best you can say it's a wrong interpretation which is what most virgin mary theorist keep saying. Because the word brother could also be used for cousin. Yeah the same way the word "brother" in english can have a lot of different meanings.
