Touhou 1-5: Yukari still sad about the former shrine maiden's death/disappearance, doesn't care if Reimu lives or dies or if her realm goes literally to hell for the time being.

Touhou 6: Yukari gets interested on this whole spellcard thing, but as in SSiB, she lets the impetuous Remilia act first (if there are any serious problems with the spellcard system, it won't blow on people she cares about).

Touhou 7: With the spellcard system being deigned safe, it's time to humour Yuyuko! By this time, Yukari takes an interest on Reimu.

Touhou 7.5: Lets humour Suika now! (Suika does as she pleases, anyway, so just go along)

Touhou 8: Yukari finally addresses the old bamboo forest's cryptids' problem, gets to know Reimu better in the process.

Touhou 9: Yukari vaguely remember incidents like those, and they involve the Yama... *Yukari packs and leaves for the time being*

Touhou 10: Behind the scenes check with Kanako/Suwako: "Will you guys play by my rules? Yes? See ya, then!"

Touhou 10.5: YUKARI IS FUKKEN ANGRY.

Touhou 11: Yukari can't take her eyes off that lazy miko for one second (see 10.5). She also take the chance to reassert who's in charge to those underground rejects.

Touhou 12: "My realm is working exactly as planned, pulling in mythical beings. Vacation time."

I considered something like this at first, but Kanako's idea of "industrialization" is actually "magitech". Nobody on Moriya seems to have an actual idea of how science works, so what they practice is cargo cult science. It miraculously works for them because they are actual miracle granting goddesses, but it's not something that will work on a superstition-free ambient. Yukari's Gensokyo can absorb "progress" like that.

Also, youkai don't require faith, they require fear. Yukari feels more threatened by "Lunarians aren't afraid of me" than by "Gods are trying to increase faith".

The mesage to the moonbitches was "I can get to you if I want to"
She still managed to steal something from the most secure site on the moon, even though the two of them had Yukari and Ran bound in front of them.
Yukari's first lunar invasion was to teach Gensokyo not to meddle in others affairs.
The second was to tell the Lunarians not to mess with Gensokyo, unless they wanted to spend the rest of eternity not sleeping.

>> No.10102336

>>10102225
It'd take Eirin about one second to figure how Yukari got the sake. This means that hole in the moon capital's defense will be patched by the next full moon. The failure in their safety protocols isn't the problem.

The actual dagger Yukari twists inside Eirin is the fact that the youkai figured a way to slip a ghost that "invites death" inside the freaking moon capital. It's like a bank finding a note saying "Boo" inside their safest vault. Eirin will have to live forever with the knowledge that Yuyuko could had messed enormously with the civilization Eirin helped to create.

After IN, the lunarians are in a pretty strong situation. They casually demonstrate how they can utterly wreck Gensokyo, and just don't want to do that. SSiB is Yukari figuring a way to show the Lunarians (well, the Lunarian that matters) that Gensokyo can reciprocate the ruination.

TL;DR: SSiB is Yukari showing Eirin that Gensokyo can play the MAD game with the moon capital.

Eirin is the brain of the moon. If she can't run a list of Yukari's known associates against a "What would happen if X was in my capital." scenario, she's kind of not worthy the title.

It'd be like:
1) Suika? Impure beast that we can easily detect, even if she arrives as dispersed atoms.
2) Ran? Impure beast.
3) Reimu? Chaperoned by Yorihime 24/7
4) Yuyuko? OHSHI-

Seriously. It's not even a complicated scenario and I can't wrap my mind about Eirin not figuring how they did the trick. The problem is: They did it once and there's no guarantee Yukari can't think on another way to ruin them, if pressed.

Eirin has three choices then:
1) pack and leave, which her pride doesn't allow her to do.
2) start a war with Yukari, and by the end of SSiB, she cannot be sure if she can win without unacceptable losses.
3) respect Yukari.

Yukari knows these three choices too. Eirin is forced to accept 3). She swallows up Lunarian pride and starts considering Yukari as an equal.

ZUNs comments that the Lunarian princesses are beyond everyone else in the story is internally inconsistant.
Their power is one thing on the moon, but since its now known they are vulnerable to "impurities" found on Earth. Well first off, that means Yuuka should be able to beat them by herself. Unless they can fight while holding their breath. She would just keep dousing them with pollen!
And Marisa was on the trip, so she I am sure knows that loading Alices dolls with mushroom spores will have the same effect.
Suwako would just keep tunneling under them and throw dirt guysers on them.
Then also Reimu never used Fantasy Heaven when she was on the moon.

Bullshit.

First Lunar War (youkai moon invasion) happened thousands of years ago.

The short "war" with humans happened in 2004, not 1969. Apollo program went just like in our world. Watatsukis called in harmless flag planting in CiLR.

Around 2003-2004 humans started building a base on dark side of the moon. Lunarians apparently revealed themselves and told them to stop, but of course humans went "humanity fuck yeah!" and started shooting. Since rabbits are incompetent cowards and couldn't get rid of the humans Watatsukis moved their lazy asses and razed the human base.

Since then moon landings are forbidden, but we don't know how much public opinion actually knows. Most likely lunarians existence is a worldwide secret only governments know about.

You're upset that she hasn't done anything in 3 years because that time period is relevant to you. Yukari is known to have what, around 1500 years? At that point small time periods aren't of much relevance. Reimu will die as many other shrine maidens that came before her did. There is not reason to get too involved.

Yes, but she has access to a lot of technology that we only know when ZUN bothers mentioning.

Eirin casually seals a letter to the Watatsuki sisters by fixing the quantum state of some molecules on it, and then tells the reader this is a little something she came with centuries ago.

The fact the the majority of the people who have used magic over the millenia didn't know about atoms, or quantum mechanics, doesnt mean that thats how magic has been working all along.
The various gods have probably know this all along and its just so basic it doesn't even inter into their concious thought

If you mean their victory in IN, it's a rather shallow kind of humbling, no? Eirin somehow places their entire country in a box and and hangs a papier-mache moon on the sky. Kaguya breaks whatever spell was freezing the night by thinking at it.

Then Eirin and Kaguya lost at the magic paintball matches and everybody had tea afterwards. It remained the fact that whenever they wanted, they could do all that shit again. It's not like Remilia, who was already bound by a previous contract to behave herself.

Regarding Kaguya, I cannot consider her as calculating like Eirin. She has a mind-warping special ability to deal with with, but all things considered, she's a rather light-hearted and earnest girl. Compare and Contrast with Mokou, who just recently seems to have gotten over her Emo phase. (it lasted centuries)

Mokou is the murderer that picked a fight with Kaguya for a completely irrelevant reason (Kaguya refused the advances of a noble? Tough cookie, she had refused the advances of the freaking emperor in the same story. Who Mokou thinks her daddy is?) and fallen so deep in her blood vendetta that the Yama probably has entire rooms of cabinets with nothing but her crimes. In the recent years she kind of started climbing from the bottom of the well she dug herself in, but a good person Mokou is not. And she's certainly a worse person than Kaguya.

So, Eientei: Kaguya is a sheltered, but somewhat okay girl, Mokou is a thug that's trying to do good deeds now, Eirin and Tewi are the manipulative masterminds. On completely different scales, but there you go.

And Udonge is a self-absorbed tool. She may invoke some pity because she ended up as the weakest link in a house of immortal bitches, but if she could somehow call the shots, I'm certain that she'd be a Suzumiya Haruhi grade cunt.

Reisen in a nutshell: News of a moon bunny landing arrive in Eientei and what's Reisen's first reaction? OH NOES, WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH ME?! (slightly paraphrased) That kind of ruined any goodwill I had for her, right there.

Of course Reisen is afraid she'll be punished. The last people from the moon to contact Eientei were frightened moon rabbits spreading rumours and begging her to come back.

I have no clue how you could get 'self absorbed' from that.

Kaguya and Eirin are powerful. They could take care of themselves even if Lunarians came for them. Reisen is just a rabbit.

She would probably get captured and punished for desertion. And allying herself with criminals.

Her own needs?

It was more of a fear really. Remember that the last people to have contacted Eientei were directly asking for Reisen to come back, and for a moon rabbit to suddenly appear it's no doubt that she was afraid that she would be punished/captured. Eirin reassures her otherwise though, maybe Udonge just jumps to conclusions to quickly?

Why would she have to worry about Eirin or Kaguya, especially if nobodies asked for them from the moon as far as she knows.

I like to think that Toyohime's special ability is to super-impose two places, without regards to whatever exists on them. She does this between two empty places to travel, but If she doesn't like you, she can transport tons of moon-rocks to your point in space, atom-smashing you.
