Do you genuinely love touhou or did you just arbitrarily latch onto the series?

I've heard that people with autism will become obsessed with things for no particular reason and they aren't even able to explain why they care about it so much. Kind of like how ducks will imprint on the first thing that they see.

You're implying that autistic love is not genuine, CIS scum.

Noo... Isn't that aspergers? Though most of them seem to notice it.

About as arbitrary as any other shmup I've picked up over the years. The series has lost most of it's novelty in the 8 years and all I can stomach these days is PCB.

>> No.10058174

I love it, though I'm guessing that a lot of it has to do with fanon and not just the games (which I still do like), but then again I can't really explain why I do considering that shmups aren't even close to my favorite genre.

People with Asperger's often form obsessive interests but that does not mean they are not real interests.

I like touhou and VOCALOID very much but I really can't enjoy them to the fullest because the fandom for them is horrible.

>> No.10058202

I like it for the music, and the general challenge it presents.

I do not, however, see how it is at all possible to become this obsessed with it. Especially to have an image board that moves at any decent rate with so many threads about it constantly in circulation.

I thought it was a joke for the longest time upon first arriving at /jp/ years ago. They seem completely serious about it, though. Even as my understanding of the complex shitposting culture deepens, I still cannot understand the musings of the "Touhou Otaku"

I love Touhou because it gives me something to practice on that I can feel like I'm progressing with. I am piss-awful at shmups in general, but I just love to keep playing and practising and getting better. Some of the fan content is pretty cool, too.

Listened to the music for years, had a a favorite song, and came to like the character assosciated with that song. Started playing the games, favorite character changed dramatically, enjoy the challenge and the fun little references to japanese history or legend ZUN sneaks in.

I don't really like touhou or know anything about it aside from a few character names I picked up from being here.

I just think /jp/ is cute and I like watching you.

I think part of what makes Touhou awesome and popular is that it's a very pretty game. The bullets are all colorful, the music is nice, it's just a nice-looking and sounding game overall.

Compare to something like Dodonpachi, where all the bullets blend together in one solid colored blob, and the music is bland. The newest Dodonpachi has dubstep in it. The games are fun, but they're ugly.

Pretty much completely disagreeing with this statement. Have you even seen stuff like Futari in HD? The stage design and layouts are far ahead of anything ZUN will ever do with Touhou.

I'll give you that the music is mostly better... in terms of composition anyway. His arrangement is pretty much shit.

>> No.10058290

I saw videos of some guy playing some Touhou games one day and it was interesting enough. I just kinda spent an afternoon watching it and that was that.

Then like maybe a year later out of the blue I was bored and somehow remembered the name Perfect Cherry Blossom and I went and played it and it kicked my ass, but I loved it and its music and visuals and bullet spam. I never really played a shmup before that, and it was super fun and I even got a few friends to play it too.

I kinda wonder where this giant fanbase came from, but I'm glad it's there. I really only care about the comedy fanworks and the music albums, though.

Or this, I don't even get why everyone likes this game. People act like it's the best STG ever and it sucks. The scoring system makes no sense, and the screen is constantly full of numbers. It's ugly.

For one song. And the saw wave is only 16 bars. Not not even that pronounced, closer to what actual dubstep should sound like.

OP I'm pretty fucking certain that has nothing to do with an autistic person's tendencies to develop narrow, obsessive interests.

Came for the games and enjoyed them somewhat. I played each for a few weeks but didn't really want to master them or anything, just have fun with them and get to see the story/characters. Then I got into the music and started downloading tons of albums, and liked that a lot. And then I started to focus on the artist fanwork, doujins and picture collecting, and sharing what doujins I bought and scanned. And somewhere along the lines I gradually fell in love with a certain Touhou and started to like a few others in particular and couldn't get enough material of them, so I ended up checking Pixiv on a daily basis eventually. I still play the games from time to time, but the fanwork is really what is keeping me with the series.

Party Barrel?

I got into it about 2 years ago when I was away from home on co-op. I was bored one day and I remembered a picture my brother had shown me of a blonde girl with a funny hat that had eyes on it. I remember him saying that it was from something called Touhou. So I looked up this mysterious Touhou and encountered Mountain of Faith. I found that while I got my ass kicked; I had fun. Then I looked for the other games since it was the 10th, there had to be more.

TLDR: I blame my little brother.
