Calligraphy

As you can see, one of these was done with an old brush controlled by a drunk man's puckered anus, completely random and out of proportion

The other is beautiful Japanese calligraphy.

as always, Japan = superior

I don't fucking get Japanese calligraphy at all

So which is which? Both examples of Japanese calligraphy in the image look equally disgruntled.

i personally don't like that particular style of japanese/chinese calligraphy script, it's the messiest. something like this (while not real japanese) is more pleasant to look at.

Well, I know my stroke order and I still can't read this. I see one that seems to be む but that's it.

What I'd like to know is how they ever invented something so mechanical like "stroke order." All the language books I have discuss mainly Mesopotamian-originated dialects that have migrated west.

grass script is notoriously hard to read unless you have special training, which i bet none of you do, so don't bother trying to decipher that stuff

>> No.99809

>>99779
Don't sound so over-the-toppish. It's not impossible to make out a couple of the words, just that no one has enough knowledge to fill in the blanks, as it were. And lol at special training, I'm chuckling at the idea of a class specifically to decipher moonrunes formed by old men shitting on paper.

After reading the wikipedia page it's not that surprising:

"Cursive script forms of Chinese characters are also the origin of the Japanese script hiragana"

>> No.99827

My grandfather did calligraphy in both Hebrew and English. I'll see if I can't throw an example up when I get home.

>> No.99867

>>99809
but it's true though, grass script forms sometimes bear very little resemblance to the originals, and it's basically only people who've studied (about) calligraphy who can read any given string of text fully

i'd find you that page with a comparison of the script styles but i'm too lazy to find it
