Why can't the japanese use the furigana system more often? Some people say me that the Japanese would be inviable without Kanji but, if it's like that, why can't they use this system to simplify Kanji reading and learning?

>> No.9813433

They do. Stop complaining and learn the language, nerdking.

I find offensive furigana in the wrong place

>> No.9813500

they use furigana entirely in the early grades of school. students just graduate from it. there's books which get released that have furigana over all kanji too, but they're more specialized and end for stuff around 8th grade.

also, manga is very mainstream and they read lots of manga which also has furigana over all the shounen/shoujo stuff.

kanji is difficult to look up. that's the only problem it has. any english word can be typed out in one second and you can learn everything about it. kanji on the other hand...

>> No.9813506

My problem with Furigana is that you can never read it or they put it on the easiest Kanji without putting it on difficult shit.
At least thanks to computer you can inject furigana to everything but I think getting used to that would be a bad habit for me.

A bit offtopic, but is there a small tool somewhere that could convert heisig keywords to kanji?
Writing the shits individually to look them up gets annoying. And text hookers don't always work.

>>9813517
No but you could do radical search over Denshi Jisho.

>> No.9813526

>>9813517
i don't use that system so i don't know. the most easy way to lookup kanji i've found is to either draw it in input pad if it's easy or count the the strokes and look up the radical.

read these and remember them well. you'll need them to write the kanji and also look up stuff which isn't in copypastable text.

I'm never going to write in Japanese stroke order is useless to me.
I'll give that a read though, I guess.

>> No.9813601

Stroke order is really easy, especially sinc you only really have to remember it for radicals, and there's even rules to which directions come first that work 99% of the time
I also thought I'd never need that stuff, but it would've been harder not to remember

>> No.9813664

It would be nice if some group injected furigana in different visual novels. I'm sure a lot of people here can read kana perfectly and making then able to read those VN without having to struggle with Kanji will make then more eager to learn what is down or beside the furigana.

Learning while having fun is one of the pillars of education.

>> No.9813667

>>9813664

And it's a lot more easier than translating the VN to english.

>> No.9813678

>>9813664
I don't think that's how it works.
If you didn't even get over your kanjis yet there is no way you will actually enjoy a VN, especially not if you want to read it in all-kana.
Reading a VN super slow word for word is a complete fun killer, even more if you have to look up stuff all the time.

>> No.9813679

I agree with OP however, this is reality (for us foreigners at least)...

My advice is to get a kanji dictionary/guide book and learn at least 90% of Joyo Kanji (of course, you'll have to review, flash card, anki etc). Invest around 6 months to a year and congratulations, you now recognize most of everyday kanji. That doesn't mean you can write or speak perfectly but at least you'll be able to read and recognize them...

>> No.9813755

>>9813678

The trick is that little by little people will start to recognize different kanji while reading. Seeing the same simbol all the time will make then recognize it easily later and the furigana will also ensure that they remember some of the pronuciation.

I'm just proposing a tool to make people learn Kanji more easily and less tediously.

Just think about this: Most people want to strive towards something concrete... less abstract than "I want to know Kanji to read Manga and videogames". With an actual game in furigana, the goal won't be the one I mentioned but "I want to read THIS visual novel I like AT THIS VERY MOMENT". The goal of learning kanji takes a more concrete form this way.

And, as someone here mentioned, If children in Japan are given books with furigana on then, why can't we get Visual Novels on furigana too? We are kids in terms of Kanji level, most of us, so it's more productive to adopt those methods used for kids in japan.

>> No.9813775

>>9813755
Make sure you watch out for furigana becoming a crutch. Japanese kids are forced to graduate out of it, and we aren't. So if we rely on it too much it will hurt our learning.

>> No.9813785

>>9813775

Well... what everyone wants to do with their life is their problem. If they want to stay in that state or if they want to take a step forward it's not a problem of the tool (furigana) you are giving then.

So you're basically saying people should make furigana inserted VN hacks for a small amount of people who are too lazy to motivate themselves to learn kanji?
I bet they'd love to.

Aside from that, there's already tools to do what you want if you would just put in some effort to look them up, e.g. pic related
