Just highjump cancel, fly cancel or airdash cancel your bullets and try to put a melee move on top of a guy who has a bullet on him.

Learning blockstrings outside of dial A helps too, Learn your cancels!

I didn't have to worry about being in pressure at all during our games, and that affected my game at neutral a looooot

Fire oni is hella viable.

its during match-ups where you reaaaaaaally need that special bullet cancel or you wish you could have another 5B after 5B or could shoot 5B after Cs, Doesn't really need levels past 1 so you can use the rest for spellcard fuel

Default is generally very solid because its a melee hit and can be staggered, gets big gains from being leveled [super armor gains at level 2 and 4] but there are honestly better ways of using your deckspace with suika and level 0 is fine.

default 236C sucks as a reversal though, don't do iiiiiit until you're realllly good with suika and can get away with it.

I realize I'm a bit late for the party but if you ever end up reading this I would like to provide a basic rundown of Suikas skills

236 series
Firepunch - main use as melee cancel, if levelled up B version gains various extra uses for blockstings, unleveled C version is useless, when levelled it gains 1 hit of superarmor per level but due to the slowness it remains largely useless unless you play againt people who don't understand it. -Good to have in the beginning as a melee ender if you are not yet too comfortable with hjcing into aerial melee.
Oni spirit bomb - Flat out most versatile and generally most useful of her 236, mainly because pretty much no other thing in Suikas arsenal, bullet or special, can be cancelled as fast as this move can, also gives you a bullet that can actually cancel out many of the weak bullet waves that otherwise would wreck your poor normal bullets. -best 236 in my personal opinion
STOMP - Fun times to be had, somewhat tricky to use and somewhat tricky to counter. Has increased blocktstun but recovers slow too making it highly punishable on whiff. Nearly useless in certain matchups (f.ex. Suwako or Remilia), crossup potential. Unfortunately this move is flat out beaten by jumps. -personal favourite, but wouldn't recommend until you are more familiar to playing against people and Oni Spirit Bomb is still overall a better move, this one is just more fun :x

214 series
Use babies, seriously, unless you have a very very very good reason to switch, use babies. Babies also become airusable on level1, this is useful.

623 series
Dive - Mixed bag, highly vulnerable to begin with, hard to score hits with. Gains a rising hit if levelled to 2 at which point it becomes a lot more useful. Problem with the move is that it's easily punishable on block if you throw it out without regard to spacing, on many cases will end up being punishable on hit too and CHs can make them fly out so the spike won't hit properly to reduce damage. MAX gives a row of pillars that can by used to catch people further away and makes this move rather safe to use -baseline, high risk high reward move
Fire Oni - Excellent control of space, many uses for blockstrings, recommended to level this to at least level 2 so it gains the spreading little bullets, they are hella good at denying space from enemy. -I'd recommend using this in most cases out of the 623 moves unless you have a personal preference to the others
Spermpunch - Useful for neutralizing bulletgame, rather slow though. Using it in blockstrings is a bit tricky, C version can be used to catch people who like to fly up and spam charged bullets. -Wouldn't take unless you have a specific reason to roll with it

22 series
Black Hole - Augh, many many uses, most of them hard to get used to. I can't go into detail because I can't wrap my head around it. -I believe this is the most versatile 22, I just can't use it properly
White Hole - Easy space control, plenty usable in many cases. -Good to use if you have a hard time keeping the opponent in line and you need something to tell them to calm down
Throw - Has very limited use, don't bother unless you have a very very very good idea of what you are doing

Anyone so inclined is free to disagree because this is a rather opinion based listing but I think it's a decent guideline.

ggs, not being aggressive is not really the problem, you were plenty aggressive in all the wrong places really. The main shortfall is that you keep repeating the same things over and over again, it works against the AI but people are able to learn and start punishing you for that.
Well, you do also lack knowledge of what you can do and when but that's something that accumulates over time, I'm one of the longer running players around so don't feel all too down for losing to me.

Try to not rely on j.8a and techup j.2a too much. j.8a gets you into a lot of trouble if you whiff it without a limit I got a lot of free damage off you for it (you caught me a couple of times too, I still have that habit). Tech attacking in general is bad but j.2a won't hit if your enemy is in front of you. I swear hong is the only one who gets punished for landing hits.

I like how 236C randomly comes out sometimes for you, happens to me all the time, I thought I was the only one.

i'm having a bit of trouble getting this to work. I can get it to run, but my arcade stick doesn't work properly. The only way i can navigate menus is with my keyboard arrow keys, but my arcade sticks buttons are the only way to select things. Once i get to the character select screen I can't move the cursor in anyway, arcade stick or keyboard. My stick works fine for melty. Anyone got ideas? I went into the button config but it won't acknowledge stick directions when I push them to set up the buttons and nothing happens.

Sounds like you had the same problems I did, your stick most likely identifies as a POV hat so you need to enable the POV hat options in joy2key by ticking the box in the other tab and then assigning the keys to the POV options

Soku unfortunately won't understand the directional inputs from it on its own, you will need joy2key
