I agree that TD has the easiest Extra but it still has Wild Deserted Island. That spell card makes NMNB run 10 times harder than normal run. TD Extra was hard to perfect because: 50% of the runs ended before Mamizou, meaning a ton of restarts. Another 50% of my runs ended on "Scrolls of frolicking animals", then another 50% of them ended on "Wild deserted Island". So it took me very many times to even get to the later spellcards, and I consider all three of the last spellcards quite difficult, having around 25% capture rate of those three in total. All of those things that had such a big danger of destroying a run made the process take much longer than any other stage.

Picture related, it took me 20 hours to perfect the stage (7 hours to clear Lunatic and Extra for my first time).

I have to disagree with those saying that TD's Extra is the easiest. Even with Spell Practice, beating TD's Extra took almost two weeks for me, whereas every other Extra each took me three or four days to beat at most.

Easiest for me was Suwako by a long shot; I beat her in a single sitting. It couldn't have taken more than two hours. I even captured her last spell card on the first time I ever saw it.

I imagine that you're supposed to destroy some of the UFOs before their bullets/lasers overwhelm you, but so far I've tried with SanaeA and ReimuB and it was pretty difficult to kill more than one UFO with both of them.

Also on the red UFO card, the bullets seem to be aimed at you. So is it some kind of streaming, or what?

Do you have TD's Extra Stage unlocked? Practice Mamizou's first spell card in Spell Practice. It will make Nue's Red UFO thing seem so simple that it's stupid.

For the record, though, yes, the bullets are all aimed at you, so it's a form of streaming.

As for the Blue UFOs with SanaeB, how much Power do you usually have when you hit that card? If you have 4.00, then that card is just so easy it's silly. Simply attacking Nue does enough damage to the UFOs that leave her to destroy a good chunk of them, so only a handful of lasers even come near you.

And I beat TD Extra on my first blind run the night the game was released. Everybody has different weaknesses. TD Extra focuses more on speed and random bullets from different directions instead of specific patterns and density. Every UFO token spawned will alternate directions. If you got one more token than usual by killing an enemy you normally wouldn't or summoning a rainbow UFO you normally wouldn't etc. or if you get one less by not killing an enemy you normally would or letting a large UFO get away etc., the tokens will start moving in different directions compared to what you may be used to.

Hmm well besides the fact that I'm the type of person who doesn't really get frustrated at anything, I try to keep a kind of easy-going "well if I do good I'll do good, if I die I'll die" mindset. Like, instead of sitting down and being determined to 1CC the game within a week, I'll just play it in relatively short increments over a longer period of time, never getting serious about it. It's kind of like trying to stretch out my "beginner's luck" as long as possible. And I never use the practice mode, I just play from the beginning because eventually each stage becomes more and more second nature to beat. Basically if I actually care about beating it as quickly as possible then I'll start to do worse. I don't think it's really a way of playing that someone can get in the habit of doing intentionally though. All that being said I've only 1CC'd EoSD, PCB, PoFV, MoF, and UFO on normal though so it's not like my method is a very good one.

As for which extra stage I enjoy the most, probably Phantasm. I always did like the boss battle, and the music is awesome. I also like Yukari's sprite and dialoques. PCB scoring is also so, so cute, I like it very much even though it is hard.

I also like PCB extra, and I have a bit better route for it, but I am still finding Yukari a bit better.

Mokou's theme and danmaku are pretty cool at times, and I like the KeineMokou implied in the stage, but I have had a hard time with the last spell and learning all the grazing tricks here would be really hard, so I am dropping it a bit lower on the list.

I found UFO extra weirdly fun when I first played it, but I do not want to rethink a route for it so I rarely play it.

SA extra was okay, mainly for the music and the Embers of Love jokes.

EoSD for the music.

TD was horrible when I played it, clipdeaths and stupid deaths. But I did enjoy Mamizou's theme and watching high-level scoreplay in it is entertaining. Also, a certain player made the second bosscard so good with his "doggies wanna fuq"-line after dying to it on a good run.

MoF was................ Dull. I never played it much and I am really, really bad in it. Everyone plays it better than I do and it is embarrassing.

Today, I managed to clear EoSD's Hard mode in a single sitting (aside from a single attempt I gave it a few days ago).

I remember thinking that beating Flandre was the best I could ever hope to be at this kind of game, and that it would be a miracle if I could ever clear that. When I started, I just passed it off as something that happens to everyone and tried to work around it. Eventually, I watched some replays of higher tier skilled players, and noticed that they don't seem to be limited by this. Its most evident in cards like Mokou's survival spell, at the part where you have to tap stream vertically... On the run prior to this, I wiped on her last and easiest nonspell, so when I got to her last spellcard my heart was almost bursting out of my chest.

Goodness, MoF's hard mode is quite a bit more difficult than EoSD's or PCB's. After quite a bit of practice, I've finally made it to Kanako, but not being used to how fast her patterns are made me die quite quickly.

I remember a guy telling me that Touhou was so easy that it was boring. He said that he got to the third stage and stopped playing, because he was so bored (despite playing on the hardest difficulty) that he didn't want to play anymore. I told him that dying all the time WOULD be boring, but he insisted that he quit because it was just too easy.

I asked him to post a replay, and he said that he didn't have any recording software and that he plays very badly whenever he streams video games. I realized that he didn't even KNOW about the Replay function, and when I asked him which Touhou game he had been playing, he said that he didn't want to tell me because I'd just claim that it was an easier Touhou game. I'm quite certain that he has never played Touhou at all.

What causes these people to brag about being really good at video games they've never played? What are they trying to prove, when they can't even prove their own claims?

On a related note, half the fun of Touhou for me is dying all the time when I play through a game for the first time or after a break from it. I've died way too many times on stage 5 so far trying to 1CC TD, but I know that a couple more days I'll have it down and that keeps me going.

I thought we had gotten over the difficulty = fun phase ever since all CAVE games got emulated and I realized they weren't even that good.

They have great mechanics, but you get like what, 2 extends at most and that's playing really well through the entire game. Bombs are also super rare, and the true last boss make you manage your resources even more harshly. The whole thing reeks of unnecessary masochism, no wonder why the most popular games get a black label version with properly tested, toned down endgame difficulty.

Well fuck, /jp/. I had my best run by far on IN's extra stage made it to Mokou's last spell card with two lives left and 3 bombs. Even though I've never seen her final spellcard before, I managed to take out about half her health before I had to use my first bomb. I thought to myself that surely I couldn't lose.
Well, after I used by bomb some retarded fucking glitch happened and Reimu started automatically moving up even though I didn't want her to. No matter what directions I pressed, she was always being pulled up vertically, unless I held DOWN, and then she could move down ever so slightly. Needless to say, I lost. I can't believe that happened...It would've been my first extra clear..
Why did that have to happen /jp/ ;_;
