Back when I was in elementary school in China there would often be merchants outside everyday after school that had boxes and boxes of ducks for sale to kids. It was relatively cheap too, at around 5 yuan I believe.

I remember purchasing two, one for my childhood friend and one for myself. I don't know what happened to the one my childhood friend had, as I've lost contact with her.

The one I had purchased I was forced to give it away to a local farmer by my mother, and I had forgotten about it ever since. It was until several years ago that I was told that the duck has now all grown up and that the local farmer had cooked it and gave half of it away to my aunt, as I'm in America now.

Yeah, I had a baby chick that would follow me everywhere when I was a kid. It used to sleep with me and everything.

But when he started getting bigger we had to keep him outside. The other chickens we had bullied him because he was different and a rooster so he was always alone. They wouldn't let him sleep with them in the big tree, so he slept in a small one near the house. One morning, I found feathers scattered all around the yard and he was gone. Apparently, a cat or something had managed to get him sometime during the night.

I had a group of hens that were from a chicken house and were raised on hormones/fat chicken genetics. They couldn't even manage jumping into a bush that was over 4 or so feet tall and if they did the branches would often be weighed down with them.

Claire, my natural chicken would fly way up in a pine tree. It was kind of neat how at the same time every evening they would be compelled to head for the spot.

I've heard so many good things about duck fat. It's supposed to make certain things taste great. I've never had it though. Can anyone here tell me about it?

Also, has anybody here had fois gras? I once heard it described as "meaty butter" and I've been interested in it ever since. It's far too expensive for me though.

Yeah, duck fat does wonder. A classic French dish would be duck "magrets" served with potatoes and mushroom fried into duck fat. Simple and great.
Foie gras is good too, probably one of the best thing you get for torturing animals. You should try it at least once, depending of the quality you can find some at an "affordable" price. It depends where you live though.
