I noticed on some of the later patterns they seemed to vary between, fairly easy with little dodging and others being giant waves of bullets flying across the screen. Like most of Reisen's and Eirin's patterns felt pretty easy since you could just move into the next gap every few seconds where as against marisa she would throw huge fast moving waves I could barely dodge. I'm not okay with this. Personally, I find the sound effects to be the best part of touhou. The low hum when you hit an enemy, the grazing sound, the casting sound, the spell break sound and the death sound are good ways to show the player what is happening.

Since everything in the games is made by the same person, I get the feeling that the music, the graphics and gameplay are connected in a better way than most games. This includes the sound effects, though I can recognize some strange stuff in the earlier games (such as the casting sound in PCB).

When I feel like it I play for more than 5 hours nonstop, and sometimes I keep getting worse and worse. But in the end, I magically do something incredible. But I don't really recommend going obsessive. You should try playing some other game when you're too stressed, or listen to some music. Maybe a 1 hour break or something like that. Or you can follow the hard route and play until you rage, and then play again and again, and suddenly you'll find yourself doing something that you never thought you could. I lost a lot of lives on Patchouli and Sakuya though. I don't play ReimuB often so I had no idea what Patchouli was going to throw at me, and I bombed and died a lot. Sakuya is just all kinds of hard. Killing Doll really raped me.

>Any plans to take back the TD extra records?
At the moment, not really.

Ichizoku's Marisa score is very strong. I can do the stage portion better, can spot a handful of timing mistakes during Mamizou, and am not so sure his route decisions for the survival spell are optimal. However, his skirt sniffing is so skillful, and I really can't compare. Combine my fixes with his skill, and 610M with Marisa wouldn't be impossible.

The Youmu score is old and there are some unexplored scoring opportunities, but she's so incredibly difficult to use well that I haven't pursued scoring with that shot type much at all. Unlike the main game where the scoring consists of demolishing the stages and shitting on the faces of bosses, scoring in Extra requires very little charge shot, more precision dodging, and unfocused skirt sniffing during spells with Youmu's unwieldy speed. I don't know the current potential with her right now, but it's probably above Marisa's.

Since I've been so fixated on UFO Extra lately, I'm thinking about pursuing MarisaA to reclaim the WR for dot_asp. Pinkdama's score is great, but there is some score to be had. He dropped a lot of items and two entire enemies during the clusterfuck (3-4M worth, at least) and was very, very cautious during Nue (another 2-3M or so). Everything else was pretty strong, though, so it won't be easy.

Do most people use the vpatch? It helped me a little bit, but it feels kind of... cheap. Like, it feels like I'm making the game stutter. It feels dirty.

I still die on Cranberry Trap approximately 5 out of every 6 tries. On Maze of Love I can go around the circle once, but I can never get back in it, and I never do much damage to Flandre unless I just bomb spam it.

I got past Catadioptric for the first time. Had to use every single bomb I had left though. Saw Counter Clock for the first time, or whatever it was. I already know I'll never get through that. It took me months to get here.

Alright. I got a replay of as far as I can get in EoSD extra. Been at it for a long ass time. I need all the advice I can get. Some notes:

On the final fairy before Patchy: I've pretty much mentally set myself to bomb here. I complete this segment without bombing 1 out of every 5 games or so and have never improved, so I just give up and bomb it.

Patchy fight: First time I ever died on her first spell in a while. Funnily enough, I didn't die on her final spell. This is the second time I've ever done that without death or bomb.

Cranberry Trap: I've gotten to where I can do this 1 out of every 3 games without death/bomb. I died this time.

Counter Clock and Flandre's attack before hand: I'd only ever seen a glimpse of this, so I had NO IDEA what was going to happen. That's why I bomb spammed and died near instantly. I want advice on it, though.

I specifically would like advice on Counter Clock, Maze of Love, and Catadioptric. All advice is appreciated, though.

You're way too slow on Maze of Love. Get in the openings faster. Stick at the bottom right corner on Catadioptric. On Counter Clock, all of the red bullets are aimed and the lasers are static, the "safe" places to stay on is left side, right side, middle and repeat. So simply start at the left side, stream the red aimed bullets and move to the right, stream them again and go sit in the middle and it should be over.

Oh god time to rant.
So I'm playing SA, as I've been doing for the past few days trying to 1cc it.
My first two runs are abnormally good up until stage 5, where I fuck up quite a bit due to nerves, however saying that, I still had around 5 or so lives for stage 6. I get to Utsuho's final spell on both tries, and I get her to the part where you hear the noise indicating that she's about to die. BOTH times I died at this point.....with 2 bombs remaining.
Needless to say, I was quite pissed off about this. So I played again whilst raging....I did pretty terrible on stage 3 and 4, and I failed at the orin midboss on stage 5, which I did good on in my last two playthroughs. So I get to orin with 2 or 3 lives instead of my usual 7 or so, and I fucking didn't die once to her, and then I go on to beating the game. What the fuck man, I wasn't even trying that run, it was just a run purely out of rage. Now only UFO remains.
Oh and yeh, fuck final spells, they are the bane of me, I cannot stand them.

Multiple times to her first non spell, then the same amount of times to her first spell. it pretty much shows me game overing just after her first spell. Instead of just spamming, wait until the bullets are about to reach you, then bomb. After you bomb, wait for the bullets again. Don't bomb unless you are about to get hit. Also, you have to be able to dodge at least one wave, especially if you have already bombed on the card.

Exactly. Your first run of a game is always going to be littered with silly mistakes. It doesn't matter how good you are. You are always going to make mistakes. Even the best WR's and superplays have mistakes in them. Don't be afraid to take risks, that is the name of the game.

The first thing to make sure to do when you are playing Touhou is to have fun. As long as you are enjoying yourself, you should have no need for patience. Patience is just your tolerance to withstand things that you don't like. You shouldn't need to do that in a video game. I consider myself very impatient, and yet I managed to play a single level fairly intensely for 7 months in order to get a single run. At one point, I wasn't even playing to win, I was just playing to play. When I got my first NBNUFO run, I started the game not caring whether I won or not. Once you toss out the "I have to win!" condition, the game will feel a lot easier to you.

>>9078311
The Touhou difficulty curve is something like this, from 1 to 10.

>Embodiment: 5
The most barebones Touhou. Not too difficult per se, but there are very little features out there to help you.

>PCB: 3
So-so bosses, extremely generous with lives and temporary invulnerabilities.

>Imperishable: 1
Literally easy everything. This is why I always recommend it to beginners.

>Phantasmagoria: 4
It's a competitive danmaku, which means the patterns are completely random. The strategy is more about war of attrition than on the other games though.

>MOF: 5
The bomb-with-power system will fuck you up somewhat if you come from other Touhou games but you'll get the hang of it. Patterns are so-so, there's a fair amount of lives to be grabbed.

>Subterranean: 7
Like a more difficult version of MOF with less lives but with some pretty helpful special powers. Reimu/Suika's semi-homing shot is particularly good for pure survival. And make damn sure you have your herding down to an art and science because you WILL need it for stage 5.

>UFO: 10
You will die. A lot. First you have to learn to ignore the UFOs that are dangerous to grab, then you have to learn to ignore that nasty and irritating *plunk!* that makes you want to go grab them, then you have to learn to ignore these fucking UFOs that are just floating around screaming "GRAB ME, BITCH!", and only then will you be finally ready to tackle these nightmarishly difficult patterns. Pic is related for this reason.

>Ten Desires: 3
Would be as easy as Imperishable, but resource-wise it's the stingiest game of the whole lot, and it takes a lot of strain to ignore these fucking spirits.

There is an invisible timer that counts down, similar to the one visible in Extra. Once it reaches 0, the AI starts acting "stupid". If you stop shooting for too long, the timer freezes.

Sorry about that. It seems almost impossible to get to everyone with a single stream. Everyone has different timezones and sleeping schedules. I still keep repeatedly missing viewers, and it's a pain in the butt. The only thing I can think to do is schedule the events ahead of time or play for a really long time. Throwing in my two cents. I have reached stage 5 (normal) on both of them during my first credit, with far fewer attempts in UFO. I think one thing complicating this debate is that SA has harder than usual bosses and somewhat difficult stages, while UFO has ridiculous stages with mostly average bosses.

In PCB or MoF I can count on no deaths during the first three stages, and capturing most spellcards. I can't with either of those two.

Just 1cc'd UFO since everyone has been arguing about it and thought I'd check it out for myself.
SA took me 2 weeks, with quite alot of hours put into it each day....UFO however I've just beat in a day (about 6-8 hours roughly). The only thing that I've 1cc'd faster than UFO was IN, and that was when I was using 7 lives instead of the default (I went back and 1cc'd it with default, before people get mad)
So yeh, based on what I've seen...SA is the more difficult of the two, at least on normal mode anyway.

The only extras I've cleared are IN and MoF, but I've at least attempted them all except UFO. EoSD has some bullshit like Maze of Love, but it also has by far the highest number of throwaway patterns. The stage is incredibly easy once you have it memorized, Patchy's only hard card can be memorized, all of Flandre's noncards are impossible to fail, Lavatein is pathetic, and Starbow Break has a safespot. It's very simple since you have no mechanics to worry about. Most of the patterns are pretty straight-forward and understandable, so it just comes down to dodging.
>Maze of Love is the only one that's really bullshit.
I'm not too knowledgeable with EoSD, but I'm pretty sure that you can master it just by going around Flandre, and dodging it from the bottom isn't too bad if you have practiced.

Thanks, I completely forgot about Anex. Now I just have to figure out how to make it speed up again.

Unlocking SA lunatic for practice reminded me of what I always liked most about the game. Something about how the bomb/power/life systems come together makes fighting for a 1CC really fun. Okuu's got enough easy attacks that I can usually pull up one more star piece at 0 power and barely make it.

WHY DO I KEEP RUNNING INTO A BUNCH OF STUPID SHIT EVERY TIME I'M DOING REALLY WELL ON A CERTAIN RUN

It doesn't matter which 2hu game it is. I've 1cc'd a few of them, but it's fucking ridiculous how many times I'll have a fuckton of bombs and no lives lost and then suddenly run straight into a bullet that was on its way off the screen below me. This is infuriating.

You just need to focus more. Just keep practicing until you get familiar with the stage, then you won't have to worry about bullets being behind you. It happens to everyone.
