Which Touhou game is the first, or which one should I get first? I've never played any, but pic related is really tempting me to get into it.

You should play Embodiment of Scarlet Devil first.
Don't listen to anyone else.

I dunno, probably the first one.
Or do you mean the first one for Windows?
In that case, number 6.

>> No.8223424

>>8223418
It's called Highly Responsive to Prayers.

Embodiment of Scarlet Devil starts the windows Touhou games.

>> No.8223422

If you have a bitgamer account, there's a torrent with all of the games.

Start with the windows games, which begin at 6 - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil

>> No.8223426

Imperishable Night.
Its easy mode will teach you how to perfect your skills gradually, honing them to fit your technique. Its superb bombing system also allows you to learn a lot about how danmaku games in general work.
In all seriousness, you should probably get EoSD.

First Touhou game (To my knowledge) is Highly Responsive to Prayers.
Don't play that one first.
Listen to >>8223417

Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is probably the best one to start at.
Protip;
The following Touhous are NOT danmaku
Highly Responsive to Prayers (TH01)
Immaterial and Missing Power (TH07.5)
Shoot the Bullet (TH09.5) [Technically]
Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (TH10.5)
Unthinkable Natrual Law (TH12.3)

There's one more, but I forgot it's name

No, I'll summarize it for you right now.

A thick red mist is over Gensokyo. The heroine investigates, beating up innocent little girls on her way.

Definitely not. Start on one of the easier ones, like Imperishable Night. Also don't be afraid to use continues or play on easy, since you'll probably fuck up a lot since you're unfamiliar.

>> No.8223446

>>8223441
Of course I'm going to play on easy, I suck at games in general.

>> No.8223447

Is this your first time playing games like this? If you are already familar with these games start with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.

If you are not then don't do that because it does not show you your hitbox and is just confusing for beginners. Start with either Imperishable Night, Perfect Cherry Blossom or Mountain of Faith instead. They're very easy on normal and give you a ton of lives and bombs.

Double Spolier?

>>8223425
No. Only the last few games have had any threads between their plots, and even then it's in passing.

Most of the time it's just "An incident has arisen, Reimu and Co. go to loot houses". The rest of the plot is self contained for the most part. If you really want to know it in stunning detail, try the touhouwiki.

>> No.8223449

It's a little convoluted, but the first that was written for normal computers is Touhou 6, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Basically, no one really cares about the first five, although I'm sure you'll find some people on here willing to work themselves into a blind rage after reading that.

The first one I played was 7, and I'm happy that that one was my first. EoSD is extremely good; the only reason I would hesitate to tell you to start there is that it feels a little clunky compared to the later ones. It's probably not going to stop you from getting into the series when you otherwise would have, though. Really, either EoSD or Perfect Cherry Blossom should be fine.

You're terribly quick to disregard the parts of the touhou canon you don't like.

That's your right of course, but you shouldn't act so defensive when others choose to not ignore them.

>> No.8223513

Play either 6 (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil), 7 (Perfect Cherry Blossom), or 8 (Imperishable Night) first. It doesn't really matter which one of these you play first, as long as it's one of these. Just keep switching between these 3 when you get bored. Once you can 1cc one of them (or at least get close), move on to 10, 11, and 12.

Whatever you do, don't play 9.

>> No.8223524

He does have a point though. The dialogue is mostly just insults and random claims. Hell, Meiling even wants to eat Mikos and a second later she's starting a proper spellcard duel instead of just breaking the rules and actually eating her.

I dont like playing against the CPU in PoFV because its just "whenever the AI decides to take a dive" is when the match is over.
Netplay is pretty fun if you can manage to not get a laggy game, though I always get hit by the shitty little white pellets that just zoom out of nowhere.

No, I've very nearly 1cc'd the first loop of Dai Ou Jou, I know a fair bit about manic shooters.

It completely misses the point of Touhou games and doesn't make up for it in the level design and ferocity of non-Touhou games, how 'bout.
