So, how many of you are in the military since the last post over a year ago?

>> No.8146052

Oh, this reminds me, I have to avoid conscription only for two more years. Ah, this military shit sure is troublesome.

>> No.8146187

We had a military thread a week ago.

Did you know? In most countries, you can even be paid for being autistic. Why would you choose to go murder people when you could stay in bed all day, playing Touhou like the rest of us?

If it weren't for the exercise, I'd probably join the military.

You could always join the [ch]Air Force.

Why is being a mercenary illegal but being in the army is fine? A soldier is essentially a poorly paid mercenary working on behalf of a client country.

Being a mercenary isn't illegal. At least, not in the US.

Probably because they could have some excitement out of their ordinary lives, like killing people. I'm pretty sure a fair bit of /jp/ are in the army though.

Not mil myself but I work for the Air Force and several of the airmen I've met are definitely otaku of varying types. I see memes and shit pasted all over the white boards in the office all the time. A couple of the airmen read mango and shit right in the office and don't even try to hide it. It's great when some older officer catches them and yells at them for it. I've never heard the term "Chinese cartoons" unfortunately, but it totally wouldn't surprise me.

Did Currybutt get killed in Afganistan yet?

>> No.8146292

>>8146262

Killing people intentionally doesn't make you a murderer under US law. Thus a mercenary can kill all the enemy combatants in Afghanistan he wants regardless of US law. However they're still confined by local law and the Geneva Convention and all that international law jazz, but the illegality of murder in the US is irrelevant to being a mercenary.

There's lots of mercenary groups based in the US. They generally call themselves "independent contractors" or something equally bullshitty though. Gov loves em cause they're less accountable and the gov can pass the blame if something happens.

Been in 7 years now. Did 4 years active, then switched to reserves. It ain't that bad to be honest. The civilian life of playing on /jp/, going to classes, and working as few hours as possible sure is wonderful.

Still volunteer for all derployments as soon as they come up though. Next one is in 2013 I believe.
