Also, if you really want to make sure you die, just block your mouth and nose before you shoot yourself. A container of water could accomplish this pretty well. Then you'd have to get rescued within a few minutes to survive rather than the much longer timespan you have where you can be recovered if you just shoot yourself and fall back in your bed.

The problem with gunshot wounds to the head is the size of the gun.

Often males who try to kill themselves that way will use a rifle or shotgun because they figure it's much more certain than using a sidearm, but you have to brace those against something and what usually happens is that when you pull the trigger it will kick / shift and blow your face off instead of blowing your brains out.

The best way is to use a sidearm, stick it up under the roof of your mouth and pull the trigger. DON'T place it on your temple because if you position it too far forward you'll blow your eyes out but won't kill yourself.

There are better ways that are less painful, especially if you screw up (not something you want to do when trying to kill yourself) but they are usually slower, involve poisons and leave more room for you to be discovered and saved.

If you really want to do it like your Japanese heroes then try and find the recipe for the "hydrogen sulfide suicide" mixture. That one was really popular and supposedly it's a very painless, easy way to die (though dangerous for anyone who finds you).

The issue with a head-shot isn't that it won't kill you, it's that if you do it wrong it won't kill you immediately which is going to be a really painful way to go. There's also the fact that as much as you might want to die your body is hard wired to try to prevent that so you might try to pull the gun away at the last minute, which is why sticking it in your mouth is a safer bet but again, it's no guarantee that you won't fuck up and slowly suffocate / bleed to death with half your head missing.

You'd think it'd be no problem to find somewhere isolated but asphyxiation like that takes a while and unless you live alone it's very likely someone will come across you. If you don't live alone, where publicly can you think of right now that you could go that you can be sure no one is going to come around to within 4 or 5 hours? Outside of town? Are you sure there aren't paths nearby? Is there a wooded area you could go to? How deep into the woods could you go before you would be far enough away from anyone, and what would you bring with you to make sure you got the job done? Would anybody notice you leaving (if you don't live alone people would notice that you are gone right)? Would you be able to get to your final destination without being spotted? How about getting the supplies you need without rousing suspicion. Is it a reasonable time of year to buy charcoal, would people really believe you were going camping?

Finding an isolated place isn't that hard, also - unlike shooting yourself, there are a lot of people who won't disturb campers out of the blue - hearing a gunshot attracts attention.

As for being spotted on the way, only anyone who knows that you're a recluse would point anything out, I don't know about the rest of /jp/, but that boils down to about two people for me. It's also less questionable an activity than buying a gun, that generally arouses suspicion. Likewise, an excuse for being away isn't that important unless you still have some degree of social contact, and even if you do, finding a reason to spend a few days to be out of the house can't be that hard - even if they did notice you'd been gone, if they can do anything about it then you've probably not gone to an isolated enough area.

I'd also be surprised if people asked about buying charcoal, but maybe I'm too removed from socialising to know anymore.

But if you are going to do it make sure to do it right, a half assed plan could easily result in someone finding and rescuing you. A strange smell or someone noticing you acting a bit off or just plain old dumb luck of someone stumbling on you mid deed.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is something you really don't want to half-do. Not only will you suffer some lasting neurological damage if they save you it'll make it harder to try again (not just because people will be more cautious about leaving you alone but it can also cripple you which makes doing yourself in tricky, also acute poisoning will likely leave you with psychosis and even worse depression than when you started).

I could inject an entire needle's worth of fast-acting insulin into my gut and just go to sleep. Low blood sugars feel nice and I'm sure I'd pass out once my blood sugar hit 50. Painless, and if I drank a bunch of beer it could even be mistaken for an accident.

I always figured to take a few sleeping pills, but not enough to get sick, just totally knock yourself out, and before you pass out, duct tape a garbage bag over your head. Die in your sleep.

Why not drink a lot of alcohol and then tape a bag over your head? It'd be more fun, anyway... You might want to wear a diaper out of courtesy when you do it. Your bowels release upon death and it wouldn't be nice of you to force some kid to clean it up because you got sick of living. You should also leave a note somewhere so your body doesn't get all rotten and gross for the next person. Something like "I'm sorry for all of the troubles I've caused you. This isn't your fault and I love you all very much. You can find me in my room." would be nice.

Getting away from bags, killing yourself with carbon monoxide in your car would be easy. It could be dangerous for people later on, though, so again: leave a note. Maybe "Carbon Monoxide Suicide" taped to the window would work if you're not going to drive way out to the middle of the woods or the desert.

Why not poison yourself with mushrooms? You can find them in forests in a lot of countries. It's clean, fool proof(unless you accidenly gather non poisonous ones, but then you can just enjoy the meal!) and it will look like a tragic accident, rather than some pathethic attempt at a suicide.

It's much easier to chemically kill yourself with a pill or gas method you found on the internet if your goal is no pain, no mess, no worry.
