The game loosely combines Arthur Conan Doyle's “The Sign of Four,” “The Hound of the Baskervilles” and “A Study in Scarlet.” The word 'Resetti' in the title is in reference to the reoccurring resetting of time within the game, which serves as a game mechanic to branch the storyline in different directions and create uniquely narrated scenes.

>The plot of Melody of Holmes: Resetti revolves around young private investigator Charlotte Holmes and her assistant Len (genderswapped equivalents of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson) who receive a strange letter in the mail. The note claims that they will be presented with three 'opportunities for grandeur,' shortly after offering the reader one of three choices which lead to a particular mystery (based on or inspired by one of Doyle's novels) and, ultimately, a heroine. The game's storylines, despite being told from the perspective of a female lead contains only female 'romantic interests,' therefore not being a pure “otome game.”
