...but you have to admit that in the history of Japanese pop music we've had more than a few disgraces. It's sucks because to the outside world that's a poor reflection on the good girls.

As far as idols and authenticity go, my personal reality with it all is that the image the idol projects is the idol herself. If she cares enough about herself, her fans, her music then that image will have a truth to it and that's all I need to know.

She was a minor Egg before being selected as a soloist, and there's only been a handful of meaningful television appearances since then. That's the excuse they always give, none of us are naive to just take it at face value. But when girls get caught doing something bad they are just kicked out or have a "sudden graduation" a la Kanna and Megu and such, they never make a final statement explaining the situation. She's not kicked out, because her graduation isn't for another 3 months... So it's highly unlikely she was caught doing anything bad, and in this case I'm inclined to believe the school excuse given her own official explanation.

I somehow doubt that Yuuka was fired. She's one of the most popular members in H!P, and there was no public scandal of any type directed only at her (Yakiniku-jiken doesn't count here). It's been depressing as hell looking at Yuuka's constant frowning over the past few months, she probably just hated idol life (company/wotas/tsunku/insert here), and wanted out... then made up a BS story about going to University to make it sound more important than just "I don't care anymore."

Tsunku was(is) like a retarded autopilot leading s/mileage on a -100ft/sec dive, and Yuuka said "f-this I'm outta here". I'm not getting my hopes up on the ability of the remaining s/mileage fire brigade to put out the flames....

Tsunku backed up Yuuka's grad by basically saying (in his posts, can't find the links atm) that Smileage and MM were made with the intention of swapping people in and out and that change is NOT a scary thing. He also said instead of thinking of it as "changing", think of it as "evolving". So, at the very least, he seems optimistic about the future and wants us to feel the same.

Not a lie, just an act, one that's a result of her being very conscious of what an Idol is supposed to be and as a result playing the part to please fans. It's very calculated. There's thought put into everything she does.

Not saying others aren't putting up an act, it's just that only some of them have those calculated and conscious approach. Some idols just seem to be riding the roller coaster, others are natural idols that don't really need to play it up and then there are idols like Momo that have to be very specific about each moment.

Momo is cool to watch because every once in awhile you see that act kind of fall, especially when someone's insulting her. You get that little moment where it's just her and you see a real emotion because she's honestly hurt by some of the insults and jabs. If anything those little human moments probably do more to make wota like her in the long run where the act grabs them in the short term.

I think I said it before it's why Kanon is an Idol I love but Momo is an idol I respect.

Also, I think you're wrong in thinking she is the only type of idol that does that. Mai, Chisa, nksk are always talking about things they are doing outside of H!P, like constantly, in fact it's mostly all they talk about. If I had to think of what a NATURAL idol is, I'd say like them, who are completely open to talking about their normal life all the time. It takes too many words to explain but momochi isn't someone else when people pick on her, it's not like you see the true or another momochi actually. It's all the same. The problem are just those people who think everyone is a "real" idol except for girls like Momochi who they think are "acting" it.
