I, for one, hate the fuck out of translators. Not only are they insecure attention whores, but they're directly responsible for bringing down the quality of the board by enabling plebians from /a/ and /v/ to read VNs that the rest of us used to like before becoming available in English.

It also helps that Steins;Gate is a very short game. It has a comparable amount of lines as many moderate length VNs, but the lines are half as long. Yes, it was a quick translate, but no, it was not some kind of godly fast project, even if you ignore that it had multiple translators doing it at the same time and one of them had already done a nontrivial chunk of it before the project started.

I hope this is a good place to ask this. I downloaded Steins;Gate just recently, and now it's asking me for a License-ID before I start playing. Anyone know what to do here? I don't frequent this board often, so spare me the trolling.

The "hard to translate" part mostly comes from the fact that Forest has some parts where the actually spoken dialogue and written text are different, but someone found a way to "sub" those spoken lines while keeping the written text.

Actually, I will backtrack a bit. Define "average length" for me. There are certainly VNs that are longer than Hoshimemo, and many more that are shorter. As far as lengthy VNs go, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it maybe, say, a 7 or 8.

If you mean to say that there are plenty of VNs with that similar length, then yeah, I'll concede that it may be "average," but if you mean to imply that Hoshimemo isn't a long VN at all, then I would certainly disagree. I suppose it might help if I could think of some translated VNs of similar length to it...

Part of Hoshimemo's humor lies in having similar repeat scenes (most of which involve some form of Chinami's antics, like her oversleeping, cooking, observation diaries, etc.), so those are relatively easy to go through as well. It's still fairly long regardless, but it does make it a tad difficult for me to get a grasp of the VN's length. Maybe that's the reason.

They're simple words like daisuki and color/shop names, you can memorize and repeat them within a day. It's also pretty useless outside the gimmick value (as in, you'll probably get tired of it after a week you keep having the same dialogues).

Hopefully they get Yuno soon enough. Shouldn't be too long if editing is done and all they have left is beta testing the ending stuff.
