Steins;Gate Review

Steampunk. Catgirls. Evil Empire. Evil Geniuses. Bright Colors (especially blue). Assorted Fantasy Races. Exploration Minigame. What could go wrong? As it turns out, more than I'd hoped.

The writing in Steins;Gate is absolutely ridiculous. Tons of cryptic language, abstract ramblings, maybe a hundred arc words (whose meanings you have to figure out), kanji and non-kanji puns, furigana abuse, stuff that looks like gibberish but isn't, random assortments of the above, and on occasion it seems to be outright mocking your ignorance. Between this, the good soundtrack, the unique and memorable art style, and the actual plot connecting all that nonsense together, the game is thoroughly immersive and addicting. Anyone who likes mind screws will have a very strong desire to unravel the mysteries, no matter how long it takes or hard it is to do so. And it is very possible to work out a lot of it by paying sufficiently close attention (and taking a few notes).

Unfortunately, this game is in serious need of pruning. The infamous bullying scenes in particular should be half their current length if not shorter, and there seems to be a constant supply of dialogues which are interesting but just long-winded enough to get annoying. There are also several times when you're forced to rewatch a scene from another character's perspective, and either nothing new is added or it was already quite obvious to me what would be different. Finally, one part of the game got no explanation at all despite very thorough explanations for everything else.

The problem with Steins;Gate is that there just weren't many scenes or events which truly impressed me. And for every one that did, there was also a scene earlier in the game which dragged on too long or outright bored me. It's hard to explain why, but I think the best way to put it is: there was definitely enough detail in the game to fill up the time in which I played it, but not much more than that.

Score: 9.5/10

Polarization: (-3.1/+3.1)

This pretty much comes down to your personal taste for the aforementioned action tropes and tragedy tropes. If they don't bother you at all, the game will feel more original and complex than it did for me. But even if you're sick of them, everything else about the game is good so it shouldn't be too hard to put up with it.

I think Steins;Gate is my most hated fucking anime in the fucking world.

You've got Okarin, the worst fucking character in anime. What a fucking bitch. I knew he was a tosser the moment appeared in front of Christina, but no OH HURR DURR YOU MUST GRANT FIND A WAY TO TIME TRAVEL. And then Okarin said to everyone he can time leap, and everyone was still like OH HURR DURR NO YOU CANT. Only when Tuturu made her presence knows at the end of the show did everyone even vaguely start to come around, and even then, they were still all "I like you tuturu." Well fuck all of you you morons. she's a sadistic bitch who ruined your lives.

Then fucking Okarin. People praising him because he had the balls to crossdress. WELL HERE'S SOME NEWS FOR YOU FAGGOTS, CROSSDRESSING DOESNT MAKE YOU ALPHA, HE DOES NOTHING EVEN VAGUELY GOOD, AND NOW HE'S RIDING HIS SHITTY FEELINGS OVER A DEAD GIRL . I pity any /a/non that likes that slapheaded piece of shit.

Then what else do you have? Characters that are vaguely interesting for about five seconds and people actually think they're deep? Well fuck me sideways.

Fuck you Steins;Gay. You rode your way through the most mediocre season of anime ever, had some of the most cliche story in the modern history of anime, and still its a piece of shit. it is nothing, and I give it a very short amount of time before it fade back into being thought of as being as dreadful as Hidan no Aria, it's rightful place.

Go to hell Tuturu.

A few typos, and some weirdness with tags of some sort left in here and there, but the translation itself read rather well and such issues were rare enough to ignore. The thing is S;G is a magnet for idiots who don't even know how to discuss something properly nor

did they watch a lot of series to have a better taste. Why is Gaia considered shit? Because most

of their threads are about Steins;Gay or Twilight. Sure I wouldn't care if it was a one thread

with normal posts and spelling but most threads are something like:"Tuturu is uber kawaii i am

going to cosplay Okarin at school gambatte" Having more S;G threads here lures those kind of

people who know about 4chan because of "funny images and jokes" and they usually ignore global

rule about being underage. Do you see Japanese 2chan anime board having endless discussions and

fanwanking about S;G? No. Why? Because they think its a silly show for children.

It's stupid, it's full of plotholes, it's littered with characters that are just plain HORRIBLE,

the fanbase is on par with the twilight and avatar one, atrocious fanshippers who watch the stuff

only to see which girl will the protagonist that is irrefutably gay fuck first, extremely

undeveloped characters and a utterly ridiculous anti hero who's lifeline is deus ex machina,

actually, 98% of characters rely on that because Frontier Works can't write above anything what a

caveman with a club lodged up his prehistoric anus could.

Also did i mention it's very yaoi'ish. thus attracting a fujoshi, and white knights who follow

them, mouthbreathers and faggots? It also it attracts ADHD children, which, no matter how much

your mother told you to respect the sick, are not wanted on /a/ and should just die off like the

waste of resources they are.

Nobody claimed that at all. The one guy claiming the "uniqueness" of the alpha might have been a bit off, but it's excusable considering it was likely meant more as a contrast to other projects like YU-NO where we've been waiting months for editing to complete before we see anything, rather than a statement about S;G being somehow great. Other than that I haven't really seen a single post like that, unless you're talking about arguing with trolls who come in just to say how shit it is, in which case what do you expect? Guy who claimed the patch was unique here. Tell me, what other projects have you seen release unedited, unQCed alpha patches? I'm not talking about route releases, as those are properly edited and QCed. The only ones I know of are Chaos;Head and Remember11. If you count leaks, the amount increases significantly (Kanon, Clannad, MLA for example), but intentional open alpha patches aren't really common. Chaos;Head's beta patches were posted on /jp/, Remember11 posted beta patches on their talk pages, and you're giving us the patched EXE and the proper insertion tools with instructions to do it. There's a lot of open projects out there, but usually you don't even have the tools to insert the scripts, or if you do (Kirikiri games, for example) you'll still need to do it all by yourself, and they're not releasing any patch-related things (such as a modified EXE and other fixes).
