What googling "Cirno" does, only shows how much English bloggers and forum folks love to post her around, again and again, and again and again and again.

It really doesn't say much about the quantity of fan-art she has. Google used in this fashion, is in fact a terrible indicator.

We aren't arguing how much quality fanart she has. You can't just exclude fanart because it doesn't fit your specific regime of specifications. If you take into account EVERY SINGLE PIECE of drawn Cirno art, she FAR outdoes everybody else.

Childlike innocent optimism, cute character design. Definitely something of Yotsuba in her. Cirno floods on /g/ used to be a regular trolling event, and I guess I learned to like her from those. Also fanart interprets her as everything from a young loli to pic related, which widens appeal.

Why are you using Danbooru as a base?

Pixiv shows that Cirno does have more than the other 2 most popular Touhous (Reimu and Marisa), however, the difference is only by 10.000 (Both Reimu and Marisa have 53k pictures, Cirno has 63k, last time I checked anyways).

Even so, the tag system doesn't really specify 100%, there are MANY pictures which have characters in it that are left untagged (eg: a pairing picture that has the pairing tag only + Touhou).

And EVEN more so, the number of pictures a character has doesn't rule out its popularity accurately, it only shows how much pictures the artists have submitted ___WITH___ that character inside it, I could go ahead and draw 100 Yukari pictures and so could any other artist that look like complete ass or are just photos of cheap notebook sketches (this is always happening).

That's what the popularity polls are for, to get a more accurate verdict due to the unaccuracy of the image sites.
