I browse the nijiuras when /jp/ gets too shitty but even with rikaikun and other translators I don't really understand what's being said so I mostly look at the pretty pictures and occasionally save one of them.
I suppose this is the same feeling moot must have felt back in 2003 and made him decide to reg 4chan. It's kind of ironic when you think about it.

For the same reason a Japanese message board about Western Muscle Cars would be just as fail. No matter how much they want it, a japanese next to a muscle car with a a japanese plate would just look weird. The whole concept is weird. I wonder why 2ch-style textboards didn't take off in the west while imageboards are less popular in Japan. (I know there are several English textboards but the biggest one is long-dead, the others get a few posts a week and the only parts of world4ch that aren't dead yet rely on spam to survive.)
