Warrior is a solid starting class, has a number of skills to boost their defense and so forth. Quite possible to hit the defense cap with their Metal Bluster and Titan Wall skills. They can also be very potent DPS if built for it because they have access to a few innate and class specializations that can boost the already high damage of two handed swords/axes to rather obscene levels.
Knight is the next tier warrior, but plays quite differently. Having a number of skills which boost evasion and move speed in conjunction with a couple of high threat AoE attacks makes the class an excellent evasion tank (either dodge or kiting) which can outclass the warrior when fighting groups. Matches fairly well with the warrior against single targets, but suffers from much lower defense.
Theif has many aspects of the rogue class, focusing on critical strikes and stealth, though the combat advantages of the stealth only come in higher levels (I think their first strike from cloaking skill is at 30). Their Sonic Cut DoT stacked for some supreme damage against single targets, but they fare less well against multiple mobs, having only 1 AoE whose damage I found to be sub-par.
I didn't get a chance to try out the Martial Artist before the beta ended, but from what I've heard they eschew the stealth element and focus on a number of stacking abilities which were rather broken; once they got their stacks up they could tank as well or better than a warrior or DPS as well as or better than a thief.

Hunter is the first Ranged DPS class. It receives a number of slowing/rooting abilities and a summoned pet combatant. Lacking AoE attacks, the hunter is fairly good against single targets, but can be overwhelmed by groups. Was a good basic ranged class, albeit a bit bland for my taste (I'm told that at higher levels they get some more interesting shot types).

Engineer has many of the same skills as the hunter, loses the pet, but gains an ability that covers them in an Iron Man-esque mechanized suit and a number of ranged AoE bomb effects. Didn't play it much, but have seen them be quite effective.

Cleric is the usual healer class, but has access to the only nature and holy spell damage that you'll have access to for the first few levels (since damage type can be used to affect drops on certain mobs, this is important). The cleric remains the primary healer class, having a main heal, a stackable HoT, two dispells (one single target + short defence buff, one AoE with medium time healing received buff), and three potent long term buffs. Healing class it is, but is still capable in single combat, having a debuff which boosts their nature and holy damage against a target.

Bard is the epitome of short term buffs and doubles as an off-healer. Losing the HoT, cleric buff, and dispelling skills, the bard gains a variety of mid to long term buffs which affect damage, cast time, evasion, and enemy defense. Most of them are quite short term, however, meaning the Bard has to run a constant rotation to keep the buffs up in combat, typically forcing them to decide between keeping more of the buffs running or adding additional healing to the group. An enjoyably dynamic class.

Magicians are the first magic DPS class, having fire, ice, and lightning skills available to them. Powerful AoE damage and DoT abilities as well as some potent single target skills make the magician a (not unexpected) contender for the highest damaging class in the game.

Illusionist loses a few of the ranged AoE spells to gain a mind control spell, a cast/attack time buff, a few more ice spells, and most importantly a mana regeneration spell. Less damaging than the magician in general, but the support skills make the illusionist a good addition to a party, especially since some classes get perpetually mana starved (mostly the non-caster classes) and the buffs are always welcome.

The Open Beta should be adding a couple of the third tier classes (I want to say Shaman and Templar, but can't remember), so those should make interesting additions to the mix, though I don't know how they will play. I found most of the classes had their own style of play and the ability to switch between them and adapt to the circumstances to be a refreshing mechanic. Will be enjoying this one for a while, I think.

i was in Atelier but there's hardly any toehoe on in the guild. we had 45 members, 10+ online at peaks, 2-5 otherwise.

I'm looking for another game to play to waste my enormous amounts of free time I have this summer. Playing a game with /jp/ sounds fun; I gave up on CosmicBreak for a number of reasons.
Definitely looking to just take it easy and have fun. Do we have one /jp/ guild in the game, or was there actually an anti-Hotglue faction?
And, since I'm not partial to any particular class in MMOs, what would benefit the /jp/ guild the most?

yeah, but, cc is not a really big deal in game. if you have a knight who knows how a knight works, and a healer capable of spamming heal, that's probably enough for the entire dungeon issues.

After some quick look over the classes (granted, without much reading in detail), the Engineer looks like it would be fun to play... but it has no upgrade later? It seems lonely on that class tree chart.

Classes don't upgrade. It's more like you unlock a certain class after you play with one class or several classes for a while. Some classes are better for some things and others for other things. So you might still use the previous class even though you unlocked it's class already.

For the healer classes
When you advance and unlock bard, do you have to add points to bard you can you stay as a cleric.
Can you still use cleric moves/skills as a bard/shaman?
When I unlock cleric, the first few clothes don't have silly hats right?
Is there any place I can see all the clothes from every class?

Every class has general skills and class-specific skills.
General skills can be used on all the classes of each class tree, ie Warrior>Knight>Templar have the same general skills that you upgrade with money.

Also all classes give certificates each 10th level you level them up to 30. 40+ give better buffs of the same certificates you got on the previous 30 levels. You cannot stack the lower level certs with the higher level ones but you can stack certs that are from different classes that give same buffs.

Gonna max knight and cleric ready for the full version. Actually what I like most about this game is that (so far at least) its pretty easy to reach the cap and there's content avaliable once you have. I think the problem with many free MMOs is that every part of the game is just grinding infinitely.

Yes. The game is incredibly good for taking it easy right from the start. You don't need to know anything and can just mash buttons to kill monsters. Knowing what stats are broken is kind of confusing but the game is pve only and you don't need an optimal build to kill monsters anyway.

If you plan on maining a Mage, I recommend you go with cleric->shaman as a sub for both +m. crit damage and future warlock.
If you plan on maining a Theif, also pick up a bit of hunter for the crit damage cert.
Crit damage is crazy powerful compared to the stats like +crit rate, +eva, etc.

Just mentioning some of the weird branches that can give you a lot of benefit and save frustration later.

I won't help answer your question at all, but an i5 CPU, GTX470, and 8 gigs of RAM seems to be able to run the game at highest settings.

Oil Bomb, their best and pretty much the only skill you'll want to use, uses Patk as a modifier.
Plus, Perforate+Stun is a nice combo if you wanna take it easy while solo grinding.

Knights have a higher base agi+ Eva expertise stats and also 2 crazy eva buffs that the player in the video ran. Other buffs i can't seem to notice/recall what they are save for wind meteor that raises speed.

Those kind of videos changed my mind and decided to go with the agi trait. Take that as you wish.

If you want an all-rounder trait, pick Maverick. Leadership is only really useful for tanks (even questionable there), and the def trait is considered the worst.
There is a reason more than half of the TW videos have it as their trait.

The most common trait in the CB was Leadership, which is the second worst trait. The problem with luck is that you alienate half the classes by choice, and it isn't very good for both healers and tanks, but those are still good overall.
The reason that almost every picks Maverick on TW/JP is that Agi is a secondary stat for every class.
EVA is the best defense.
Atk Spd has special properties regarding white damage and skill use. Go read Grand Fantasia forums if you want an idea, otherwise look it up on TW/JP wiki.
Cast Spd for casters.

You can switch classes at any time. You can pick a trait that benefits both so you can switch between either when you like.

The first class choice is Magician or Warrior so you will probably start out as a Magician anyway. Hunter is unlocked when your character level is 15 I think it was.

Hunter attacks really fast but is single target and gets a pet to fight with them. Mage can spam single target and aoe damage spells, but also warp around so spam two or three aoe, teleport, turn around and do it again.

Actually I ended up liking my Illusionist a lot more for that kind of thing. Because you unlock them when you have leveled your Magician level to 30. They get a pet like hunter do and cast spells and can warp around like Magician can, but they don't have as many nice aoe damage spells and have a lot more group buffs. It's still fun using an Illusionist with pet, buff up your attack speed and then warp around shooting and casting.

I played both hunter and mage, I found hunter more fun, (I always choose ranged classes). However, mage can handle AOE-grinding a lot better, so it depends on which type of mobs you're dealing with. Some are very spread apart, so Hunter would be very easy to grind with. Some mobs are very cramped up, however, and you can use snow storm on your mage to freeze them in place, aoe'ing them before they get a chance to even attack.

Also, as a hunter, you don't get any decent AOE's so if you've got a big mob on you and your pet dies, (Believe me, it does!) you're pretty much dead. (You can't summon up a new pet while in combat.)

Mages, on the otherhand, get a small "Teleport" skill, I forgot what it's called, but it lets you teleport a few meters forth, and it increases your EVA, so it's a good survival spell.

Imo, Hunters just have tons of Burst-damage

What does the cash shop sell, will I be at a significant disadvantage if I don't partake in it? I guess what I'm asking is: Assuming I never touched the cash shop will there be any element of the game I won't be able to enjoy?

No. Everything in cash shop can be bought with in-game money if someone is willing to sell you those items. The main difference of cash users is that they'll have better socketed or fortified items, but these items can be purchased if you are successful in-game. No cash shop armor and such, so nothing overpowered as of yet.

There's both legac armor and legacy weapons.
Blue-grade gear that give an xp % and drop rate bonus and stats increase along with your level to a specific point.

Not really necessary at all, though. And if they follow trend like in previous games there should be a method of obtaining a tradeable box with the set/pieces in it.

As far as everything else in the IM goes, it's usually all tradable. And with the number of people playing the game, you shouldn't have much problem getting IM items if you can farm enough gold.

You can also use whatever you like with any class though, you just miss out on a few key bonuses but it might give you room to spec differently and make the build doable.

The people that manage the server, the site and communication with the public are not the same people. Odds are they rarely communicate. The people we are talking with have no idea when the server will be up. The people working to get the server up have no communication channels with us, and likely not with the GMs. The solution?
