As long as it has a aspect of faith it can hurt a youkai, even the powerful ones. A gun you believe with all your heart that it is capable of hurting youkai probably won't be as effective as something you get blessed by the pope though.

Also even with how fast modern projectile weapons travel actually hitting some of the faster or hax characters will still be hard.

Basically, MoF's plot was centered around this concept. If you want to really be prepared then you get some kind of legendary weapon like Excalibur or the Lance of Longinus. Rinnosuke has the Sword of Kusanagi so one wonders how much damage he can really do if he decided to defend himself.

The regular weapons that end up in Rinnosuke's shop wouldn't work against any powerful youkai because they don't have faith. The Sword of Kusanagi was brought to Rinnosuke by Marisa and is a legendary weapon still known well by the Japanese so it would work.

Due to its legend it should be able to hurt Youkai pretty bad if they're attacked by it no matter how you use it. I never said Rinnosuke could start sword fighting on par with Youmu but he's still half youkai and is probably stronger than the average human so he can defend himself, so yeah.

It wouldn't work since people believe swords can cut things but normal swords in most cases don't work against Youkai. It has to have a kind of holy/magical faith like being blessed or using melted crosses as bullets, legendary faith can work too but the AK doesn't have a legend tied to it other than it's a reliable gun that everyone likes to use. Any faith that AK might of had based off of its history is probably lost when going into Gensokyo anyway.

If you look at any shmup that uses 'Real' aircraft, be it 1942 or U.N. Squadron or whatever, the bullets and missiles and such move drastically slower than they would in reality for gameplay purposes.

So, I'd say it's not entirely out of the ream of possibility that Touhoes could evade fire from real weapons.

That said, it's also clearly a world of fantasy that may well have its' own physics, so the speed of bullets in Gensokyo could vary depending on ZUN's blood alcohol concentration for all we know.

Yukari and her Youkai army got owned when they went to the moon by their combination of advance weaponry and magic. I think the bullet speed we see in the games is accurate but the way the fights play out with the whole durr hurr spam bullets while the enemy rains down beautiful death on you isn't. The fights are probably more random and fast paced.

Part of the reason the Hakurei border was created in the first place was that human technology was starting to reach the point where it could feasibly match youkai hax magic.
