so did anyone else just not like sumika that much? the only things I disliked about the game were the fact that it revolved around her and takeru taking forever to learn his lesson. at times it felt like he was shinji combined with kira yamato.

Play Meiya and Sumika's routes in Extra. They're 95% of the same route.
Unlimited is essentially 99% the same per heroine.

Meiya & Sumika have the same route in extra except for date scenes & the ending. Its the main route so pick your favorite.

MLA has a few references to the side routes, but they're explained briefly and not terribly important.

Unlimited only has one route and the character specific endings are all nearly identical except for Meiya's, which has a short tie in to extra. You'll probably want to pick that unless you hate her.

Yes, it's just one patch for the both of them, because they are both technically one "game". (You complete the two main routes in Extra in order to unlock Unlimited.)

Sumika doesn't change much, it's TAKERU who always changes. The only major changes to Sumika in Extra was her gradually realizing she had no chance at winning Takeru and her growing acceptance of Meiya.

Takeru's development in Extra for Sumika's route is shit, though, and that's why he gets used as the base for Unlimited and Alternative. It completes him as a character, and by Alt it comes full circle where Sumika degrades as a character and the now complete Takeru brings her back up. The give and take of the relationship is what makes it believable and natural.

There's even less for Ayamine, Mikoto, Tama and Chizuru. Only Meiya gets the level of interaction with Takeru to give noticeable change in her character. It helps that she starts off Extra as dense as Takeru but as devoted as Sumika, and gradually learns from both.

The whole premise with Sumika is you're supposed to go in thinking she's a generic childhood friend with a shallow crush, not a girl who's been deeply in love since childhood and puts on a front to seem more interesting because there are always more special girls around her man. The challenges introduced to her character in Extra and Extra Branch are done to show you the player how pure and deeply her feelings are. You get a feel in Extra, but it's not painfully clear until Alternative.

A lot of people like Meiya's development better (and rightfully so) because Takeru's known Meiya only as long as the player has, so the YEARS of relationship that is invested into Takeru-Sumika isn't there for the player to base their impressions on. But Meiya's friendship with Takeru in Alternative practically mirrors her relationship with Sumika in Extra, it's just with a different character.

I didn't get that in Extra. I was totally sucked into the idea that she and Takeru enjoyed their carefree days. My initial impression was Sumika only got serious about Takeru because if she didn't, Meiya would have taken him away from her. This isn't far from the truth because Sumika expected to continue their life together through Hakuryou University until Takeru matured, but Meiya forced everything early.

I had a hard time accepting the idea Sumika actually "loved" him during childhood. To me, that seemed like just a crush. Obsessive crush, but something fleeting and impulsive. Most childhood relationships like that end up with a brother-sister relationship if they're THAT close. Her route in Extra was devoted to convincing me that was the wrong impression.

If you lose people in free mode do they die permanently? That'd be stupid but..I can't trust this game.

AF end was probably for the best. I raged like a motherfucker when I realized what had happened, but stepping back you realize things aren't so terrible-

If Takeru kept his memories he would be extremely grimdark toward everything. Extra is not the place where you spout shit you learned in the horrors of war. Plus, he would also be very pro-Sumika and that would give her an unfair advantage. He'd never go back to his carefree days if he carried those memories with him. With a mindblank, even Kasumi has a chance at winning his heart now. Though, I have a lot of trouble accepting that AF Takeru, who is a blanked Alternative Takeru who was originally Sumika Extra Takeru, has to fall in love with Sumika THREE TIMES before he can finally have a life with her. That's just too cruel.

In Alternative, even if nobody remembers anything specific about him, there's a shitload of evidence he left about his existence on top of Kasumi and Yuuko remembering him, like on film and in voice recordings. They wouldn't be able to add all the details together, but he left a huge impact on that world.

Sumika guided Alt Takeru to a world where all the women who loved him could get a fair shot at him. Kasumi's the only one who prior to AF had zero chance of getting with Takeru. Regardless of their original intent, it still ended up being a great story. MuvLuv is easily adaptable as well. Negligible h-content (besides BETA rape, though I'm sure that could be described instead of drawn), no point of view issues such as in Sharin, G-senjou, or Ever17, and mecha. Mecha never gets old with anime fans.

Nothing needs an adaptation but the thought of one is always fun to play around with. Then the actual adaptations roll around and everyone hates them to death.

Who need them when age have their on 3D modeling team. The Muv Luv Chronicels PV was done very well. They can just do all the modeling and leave the grunt work to other animation studio.

If majikoi is going to be successfull you can bet a lot of companies will try the adaptations path with money to back them up. Demonbane, Oretsuba all failed because of shit budget. If someone demonstrates investing in adaptations give a proper return, more and more companies are going to try it out.
Companies nowadays are looking for a stable consumer base, and you can't go any stabler and faithful than the eroge crowd.

So I've finally somewhat figured out how to play that BETA strategy game, but there's something I don't understand. Sometimes, when playing in free mode, a character will suddenly drop down a rank, and I have no clue why. Does anyone know?
And also, I heard that the sequel that came with Haruko Maniax doesn't have a free mode, is this true?

Regarding the TSF Strategy game in AF, in free mode, do the icons on the maps, like E, D, C represent what rank you've gotten on that map, or the ranks you've gotten on Very Easy, Easy, Normal, and Hard?

Free Map 4 is pretty cool.
You can boost jump behind the 4 Lux squads and take them out before they deal much damage to you so long as you position your self well.

You can move anywhere on the map using like at most 4 or 5 points. Nothing except lasers can attack you. You can attack anything, provided you have ammo (swords obviously don't work), tanks and such can shoot though you (since you are above the ground).

Chronicles 02 site was updated with pretty much a bunch of nothing again.

I've had no trouble before, but the game keeps crashing after this line. I've used the newer patch, and even did a full uninstall and tried getting past it unpatched, but it still crashes.

If you take mlhookv2.rpo out of the plugins folder, the error is completely unrelated to the patch. Can't really help you with troubleshooting because... uh. If you specify where it is some anon can just give you a savefile to get through it though.

Every stage so far except 1 has had left me at loss of what to initially do, and stage 5 takes that to the extreme so far.
