It's the 'best' if you're a complete and utter newfag who has not previously been exposed to similar things. There are so many things you've to put up with (endless chicken sandwiches, slice-of-life) which if you've played a lot of vns or seen a lot of anime will seem hollow in comparison and a pain to read through.

I wouldn't say it's the best. The normal routes weren't so interesting compared to some other games which also have the last route as miles better than anything before.

For best you have to choose between Muv-Luv Alternative or Yu-No I guess.
Some people would say Clannad too.

It's amazing.
Once it really start around the big "traumatic" event everybody know it never let the pressure go off.

You have like 15 hours of absolutely greatness, it's one of the best experience you can have with a VN.
Though the ending is weak.

The problems with VN and calling one the best of all time is that I can't think of one not filled with flaws, even those considered as the bests.

I wanted to read Coco's route since everyone says it's really good. But didn't even finish my first route, it bored me to death. Still haven't picked it up again to this day.

Honestly I still have very fond memories of Coco's route.
Some of the revelations are definitely pretty cheap but the way it was done was definitely great.
My favorite scene though was the Tsugumi in the whale room one, the voice acting was amazing.

But the plot itself was definitely pretty cheap, just happened that they managed to tie it well enough in the last route.
Which is why Remember11 was so horrible, a bad plot without the good execution of the Coco's route to back it up.

For everyone saying Ever17 is bad because of that stuff though, I'm not really sure how you can justify that. Just about every VN I've played has had things like that, and they are not really as detrimental in Ever17 as they are in other games (the midsection of Heaven's Feel in FSN and a few routes in Clannad jump to mind particularly)... if you can't deal with it and like it for the rest of it's story and characters, I'm not sure if you can really enjoy VNs as a whole.

Oh, I don't mind the slow parts in VN in general.
What I do mind is that in Ever17 they're poorly written and horribly directed. It's all just incredibly, unbelievably... bland.
