Madoka is mediocre at best. If you enjoy that type of show then that's cool, but it's hardly the one good show of the season. The only good shows airing right now, are Index and maybe Level E.

Take the usual mahou shoujo plot. Make the little creature seem creepy. Make being a mahou shoujo a clearly dangerous thing - your show is now deep intellectual and not just grimdark. Steal some music from Rolence and Korlo. Take some character designs from an artist known for her nutbladder-slaughtering character designs. Get high on a few things, copy+paste from the usual nonsense SHAFT stock folder.

Now you have Madoka. Best anime ever, man.
