I meant more historical things.
modern Korea is just a less ghetto US/JP hybrid.

>wishes it got the recognition for its economic growth that Japan and China did
>worships video games as a legitimate sport
>Insane institutionalized rote-memorization educational system
>Girls doll themselves up in heavy makeup, designer clothes, and the vast majority want or already have plastic surgery. It's socially accepted and mainstream.
>Hypersensitive to negative depictions of its country or people

It's pretty much the bipolar OCD country of the far east

Indeed. Korea's got some fucked up Bipolar OCD shit.

I used to be in the K-pop fandom, but I fell out of it because the fans were batshit insane. I went back to Jpop.

OP here, dating a Korean. Meeting her family when I go there in July.
I was planning on some subtle "dear leader" jokes, but by the sound of things, if I do that I'll never get married.

Oh wow wtf. If you know what's good for you, don't ever do that!

Koreans are some of the most easily butthurt people. Also, their culture is respect-centric and rude at the same time. Bipolar shit indeed.

damn, at least Korean is an easy language.

I must rethink my strategy to impress her parents.

Wrong board. For culture, go to /int/. (Or /trv/?

Korean culture isn't even nominally legacy board-related.

I'm from the Philippines. Lots of Korean immigrants here.

A lot of them come off as arrogant dickheads. The Japanese immigrants, although much lesser in number, are better to deal with. I've experienced being an English tutor for both and Koreans aren't the easiest to get along with. If there's one good thing, they sometimes give me kimchi, and it tastes really good.

>> No.6896691

Eh, don't really know about it. Mom wanted me to learn it because it's part of my history and whatnot but I didn't really want to.

I posted it here because I am a shut in.
I don't think they would understand my plight as much as people similar to me would.
We're engaged, but only us and a modest circle of friends know this; we'll come out about it after I've met her family.

Do you have any familiarity with the language itself? It's been a small interest for me but I never had such free time as to begin studying, I did bookmark this site though.
