I know I play like shit, sorry.
For starters I guess I should read up un the patchlog I have missed, then I should re-learn more or less everything about the entire game, get used to the mechanics again, and learn not to be a wuss who panicks whenever I am not familiar with what might be going on.

I still had fun though, I hope you had too, even though it was increadibly one sided.
It seriously almost amazes me how much worse one can get by staying away from a game. It might have been one sided even so, but in the past I might at least have been able to put up a fight, this was pretty much a cake-walk. But as you didn't leave I figure you found some enjoyment in it anyway.

No need to apologize. I enjoy playing against opponents of pretty much all skill levels, and as long as my opponents don't mind me using gimmicks like that little bit of weather play at the end there, it's all good.

No matter what you do, if I time my attack right, it beats everything you try to do. So block. It's kind of a respect move towards the other player. You can mash buttons all you want but it's incredibly boring to play time-the-meaty against a player who does never block and runs away all day.

GGs aki, a bit shorter session this time since it's getting pretty late.

I'll need to experiment more with Cirno's alt skills, especially that 22 proximity bomb. It seems that even if I manage to pin you in the corner, you can just wait and block anything I throw at you without having to worry about guard crush.

Those timestop spellcards you use are pretty interesting to fight against, although you did find an easy way to punish my alt.214 Ice Kick.

Play against the CPU to learn the basic mechanics of the game only. Move to netplay when you can reliably beat the CPU on lunatic, since the CPU plays nothing like a human and you'll only learn bad habits if you keep playing against it exclusively. Most of the advice I'm giving here won't apply against the CPU. It's most likely you'll get beaten a lot at first during netplay, but that applies to pretty much any game.

To make learning easier, you might want to pick only a few characters to practise. You can't expect to win if you don't know what moves your character has and learning all 20 is going to take some time. None of the characters are too low tier, at least on /jp/ level of play, so pick the ones you find interesting or fun.

While all of the characters have a basic combo that works by pressing the melee button repeatedly, some simply can't rely on that alone. Look at the wiki linked in the OP post for some combo examples. Cirno, for example, does only 1309 damage with her basic Dial-A, yet with her alternative ice sword skill she has a 2900 damage corner combo.

One of the most common mistakes new players do is trying to attack after they've been knocked down and are getting up again. If your opponent times his attack right, you WILL get hit again. The proper action is usually to block on wakeup.

>>6822158 cont.

Avoid flying to the top of the screen too much. It might seem safe, but a skilled player will be able to shoot you down, and you'll quickly deplete all of your spirit by flying.

While this game is heavy on projectiles, you can just run through them so relying on them too much will leave you vulnerable and low on spirit. You'll have to find a balance between melee and projectile usage.

Also, spectating other people is a good idea as well, you might learn some interesting tricks and combos. The game will ask whether you only want to spectate when joining a server. Enable replay autosaving from the config menu as well so you can watch them later for reference.

Finally, remember not to take this game too seriously. There's always a luck factor because your cards are drawn in random order. The weather system will try its best to troll you too.

Ceiling hugging is absolutely zzzzzz to play against and not that great a tactic anyways (unless you are Suwako or something) but flying itself is fine. Take Yuyuko for example; 963214789632D j.2A is S level tactics.

>Finally, remember not to take this game too seriously. There's always a luck factor because your cards are drawn in random order.
There is definitely some luck involved but its not as bad as this guy makes it out to be. If you are absolutely reliant on winning with certain cards/skills in your deck, I suggest you get better at the game.

True, that was technically a mistake on his part, although it was something most people wouldn't expect to happen. However, a random factor still remains when a weather ends and the counter is set at a new, random weather. If one of the players holds a weather card, he can immediately force this new weather as well. Also, there's Aurora which really does give an unpredictable, random effect.

>>6824507
No need to make things personal here.

>> No.6824665

>>6824625
That only happens when weathers end, and after that it cycles predictably, so I think we are all capable of managing that element of the game. People forcing weather on you like that is an advantage they deserve for actually bothering to run the Hisou cards, which I wish I saw more of. I would say if anyone was really worried about that, they should be running Hisou cards to counteract disadvantageous weather. Aurora is similar to me, an initial random moment followed by predictability; the weathers that will surprise you worst in Aurora are actually very easy to identify. For example, Typhoon Aurora can be a horrible surprise in the wrong situation, but it's not like either player will know the mystery weather before the other does.

Yes, I think we can both agree that weather is usually very manageable. However, I don't doubt you've had your fair share of anticlimactic endings thanks to some ridiculous weather kicking in at the end of a very close match. Something like blocking in corner when both players are very low on health and suddenly Aurora with typhoon effect kicking in, or a situation where someone runs into a melee attack and would've lost if not for a sudden spring haze making him graze it instead and effectively turning the tables. These are very frustrating moments, hence me suggesting not to take this game too seriously.

Also, thanks to the random nature of card drawing, even if both players are running weather cards you may not always have one at hand when you most need it.

I suppose you can choose not to believe me, but I have never feel like I have lost because of a sudden weather change, considering how closely I monitor it. I lose matches because I am bad, not because of sudden weather. I also never understood the complaints about the decks. In a 20 card deck, with 4 of a card, you have a reasonable chance of drawing a weather card. This is just a guess, but I would say in around 75% of my games, if I am running 4 Hisou cards, I actually do get one in one of my first 5 draws. Considering that the kind of actual game changing weather activation usually happens later in the rounds, I still feel prepared even when I don't. Dislike of the weather and associated factors is most likely relative to the number of times you've been trapped in a disadvantageous situation due to weather, so I guess that's a personal thing. I feel like in the examples you mentioned, recognizing the upcoming weather and timing your actions better would avoid those kind of situations. I've always done as much as possible to avoid that, so maybe I'm the only one that likes it.

Well, I do have hard time believing that, seeing as I too run weather cards in most of my decks, but like you said, it's probably a personal thing. Most of the times I find the weather an amusing spice, or a minor hindrance at most. There's nothing like the feeling of calling forth a Typhoon in the last round when you're clearly in the lead. But there are moments when it simply catches me off-guard, like when I'm trying to look for a gap in the opponent's pressure and keeping an eye on my spirit and then suddenly a typhoon kicks in. On the other hand, I've won numerous times when my opponent didn't take the weather into consideration.

Anyway, what I said at >>6822163 wasn't even meant to reflect my personal feelings but rather provide a tip for a beginner, since the weather system is a very unique feature that'll be very confusing for a new player at first.

If they only took out river mist. I can't fathom even a smallest bit of sense in that weather. It just completely destroys the game for no fucking reason, and it stays there forever without a weather card.

Typhoon and River Mist need to go. If damage was better balanced, I'd be fine with Typhoon, but characters like Aya and Reimu are completely fucked over by Typhoon with no recourse. No blocking means they eat full damage on what should normally be risky moves you'd never use, and they can't inflict almost any damage to be able to punish for it. All they can do is run until the weather's over or blow cards on it. Beyond that, there are certain cards that are just too powerful in Typhoon. Even just making it only one hit of super armor would be so much better. River Mist is just retarded all around and slows the game to a crawl whenever it's in effect.

GGs Renee. Don't know why but that's the most pissed I've ever been while playing this game, and I've played Duckator. I felt like everything Marisa has is inferior to Meiling for some reason. I'm either going to have to step it up and figure out what I'm doing wrong or start countering with Tenshi or something like that. Also, I rather enjoyed those last few games against your Komachi, mainly because they were just trials of patience and seeing who'd make the miscalculation first.

I don't know about the Marisa being inferior to Meiling bit, but I do know you were a bit easier in the last matches because you were playing my China like she was Komachi.

I wonder why it never crossed my mind before today that Meiling's 5card Roc Killing Fist connects from her leveled up default 22 making it very easy to use in combos besides its obvious defensive use.

GGs. It seems to me you're playing against me like you would against the CPU. A human opponent will put pressure on you when you're getting up from the ground, so you can't usually do anything but block. Also, even if you play characters like Patchouli or Utsuho, you can't win with projectiles alone.

Also, it seems you don't have SWR installed and are thus missing over half of the characters. I suggest you install SWR as well if you don't want most people quitting already at the character select screen.

Really recommend you to play some computer or practice mode before moving to netplay. Fighting games are usually cruel to worse players, so you shouldn't feel bad for losing at start.

Start by experimenting with few chars you like, and then play against computer and practice mode with them. You should also take a look at the wiki http://hisouten.koumakan.jp/ and try to understand the mechanics of the game.

Well, it's true that main games are interesting and an excellent way to work on mine.

But I really don't have a character I could call my main (except Alice, but I do think she's not my best char) so i spend my time randoming because I can't decide myself.
So I really don't mind people playing their mains against my random, it's almost my main.

But of course it wouldn't be pleasant to play your main against my worst characters.

I'll try to random less though.

You won't learn much playing against the computer. It will not put pressure on you like a human opponent, and you can actually beat it with just spamming bullets. You'll most likely just gain bad habits from playing against CPU.

Pffft, GGs Navox!

You had me at the beginning there, but that was only because I just came from outside and my hands were freezing! You made me have to take my coat off.

I don't know how long you've been playing but I got the feeling you haven't been playing for long. You seem to be good at fighting games in general, seeing as you had limited tactics but they were well thought out and executed. You'll pass a reckless scrub like me in no time, but your tactics are mainly centered around very unsafe moves.

Still, I had fun, those were some really entertaining matches~

What the fuck was up with the lag at the end there? It was like playing in strobe-o-vision. Glad I'm finally starting to take random ones from you and forcing you to 3 most of the time though. I think I finally found the one room of the house where the connection between us isn't godawful. Or it's just luck.

GGs Kuraperunat. I originally planned to practise Komachi this time around but since it was you, I thought there's no point in boring the both of us when I don't really know how to play her.

I think my Meiling has considerably improved playing against you. Winning your Remi with her was the most satisfying moment I've had in months with this game, although I didn't really expect to land that 5card at the end.

Also, I'll have to play more with Youmu when facing you, although you play her better than me I think.

Spend 5-30 minutes a day practicing/trying out "new" combos, watch videos of others, look at the wiki linked in the OP (character wise, Youmu, Iku, Utsuho, and Marisa are the only "super-detailed" character pages, so take advantage of that wealth of info for them), and try to analyze your play to see what was done right, wrong, and what to improve on, so your mindset is slightly better the next time you play. If you were looking for Meiling tips then I'm sorry but I can't help. Don't play her, and I already have trouble fighting against her.

GGs Taloth.
Just a few advices :
Try not to mash D button, you did some unintentional (I think) Border Escapes and it only puts you in an unfavorable state (lack of spirit)

Also, when your opponent has a huge life advantage, don't rush on him during a Typhoon, I stopped attacking on purpose.

On a side note, avoid as much as possible Sakuya's 4cards knives circle thing spellcard since the opponent can just graze it. (I don't know a way to use it correctly though, I prefer her other 4cards.)
Use the smallest circle after a knockdown, it will put your opponent in a hard situation on wake up.

That's all I can say, I'm not a good player myself.

Good games, I was thinking of stopping after that game too.

Why do I feel epically trolled by EVERY youmu? Can't move at all, she is by far my worst matchup.

GGs. Constantly flying from one end of the stage to another makes for incredibly tedious matches, you know.

>Why do I feel epically trolled by EVERY youmu?
She forces her opponents almost always to defend, so playing against her is quite different from most other characters.

I am sorry that I flyed that much. I was not in the defencive mood. Most of the knowledge is there but patience is hard to find.

GGs, I think your playstyle is a bit too reckless. Rather than helping you, your attacks often just put you at a disadvantage.

Please do so, this thread is almost at its limit,

I don't really mind that much, it's just that it really breaks my concentration when the match becomes a game of tag instead of a fight. You're skilled enough to beat most of my semi-mains anyway, so it was a bit disappointing.

Youmu, Cirno and Meiling, in that order. Besides them I occasionally play Yuyuko, Aya, Reimu, Sakuya, Suika and lately Reisen and Komachi, depending on my mood.

Nice cast. I main Tenshi <3, then a bit suika, aya, komachi. With everyone else I am fairly bad.

Maybe we could play with other characters besides our mains the next time around, then. It might make things more interesting.
