We are not unreasonable or intolerant people. We are your neighbors and friends and relatives. We are completely normal people who live completely ordinary lives except for one thing --we cannot understand the attraction or value of sports. Don't misunderstand us -we believe in fitness and staying healthy. There's nothing wrong with a neighborhood softball game or shooting hoops in the driveway. But we think there is something wrong when people base their lives on the outcome of a game. We think there is something wrong when grown men collect baseball cards and are willing to pay for the opportunity to watch other people play and have fun. We think there's something wrong when people think we're unmanly or not a true patriot because we don't follow sports! And we especially think there's something wrong when our favorite show is interrupted for a *&@!^%$#@!! sporting event!!!

>> No.6813508

Don't bother with any nerd-oriented shops. Forbidden Planet seems to get their goods directly from AmiAmi, but have a pretty large manga selection and decent prices. Image Anime is horribly overpriced. Anime Castle in Queens sells bootlegs, apparently.

For manga and art books, Kinokuniya is decent, but slightly overpriced. Go there if you need any language books, but nothing more. Midtown Comics has a smaller selection of manga, but they have a pretty awesome rewards program (for every $100 spent, get $20 free).

Erm... Chinatown Fair Arcade has a Melty Blood: Actress Again machine. That's pretty much everything I can think of.

For now it seems that there's only one bitter, misogynist asshole in here, and that's me. On a personal level, I don't give a shit that much that you happen to be female or even that you mentioned that you were female. It's more of the fact that when people do make posts of the type I described, posting vaguely associated with ideas like: >>6815496 and >>6815447 tends to slowly creep on the board like a insidious infestation.

It's more actually the case that >>6815447 set me off like a firework and has less to do with you in particular. Upon review I realized that I was even more of a tremendous douchebag to you and the other femanons than I had planned on initially being, and that I shouldn't take it out on you in particular simply because various elements of /jp/ (hypocrisy general) tend to make it this thing over time.

My original intention was to express the idea that announcing that you are female without any particular reason to do so (for example, if it is required to put a situation you are relating into context) is bad posting because it's either attention whoring or it looks like attention whoring because there is close to never a good reason to ever bring it up. Along the way I was a huge asshole to a fair number of other /jp/ posters.

Upon reevaluation of this thread, it seems like technically the reason gender was brought up in this thread is because apparently some people were considering organizing some sort of meetup and hence effectively making the gender issue irrelevant. This meetup-planning situation is so absurdly rare on /jp/ that consideration of this context did not make it into my evaluation and subsequent condemnation of what I had initially considered gratuitous information and bad posting.

I don't see what the big deal is. If any of you actually show up, you're going to find out that some of us are female anyway.
I NEVER bring up my gender. Ever. I've seen what happens when other females post, and they practically get their heads bashed in whether it's relevant or not.
Posters like you have made me ashamed of my own gender.
A few years ago I actually used to wish I had just been born male simply because it would be easier with my lifestyle.
I get that you're trying to retract your statement and be respectful but it doesn't make a difference because there are so many other people just like you.

Not who you're replying to, but.
Initially I felt that the tendency to ostracize any self-professed female was a helpful counterbalance to those who fawned over such posters. It also helped to discourage any who were merely seeking attention. I would tend to blame a particular tripfag for really fanning the flames and making it all get quite out of hand. Now it's just some knee-jerk reaction... but I don't believe it is a practice that needs to be so completely maligned.

In any case, I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say that you have it tough because of your gender; I hope you've reconsidered that opinion. If you're going to be ashamed of being a woman, be ashamed because of things that fellow women do; not because someone is yelling at you for being one.
