Nasu is the creator of pretty much all Type-Moon series and most of said series are connected in some way to form one big universe, otherwise known as the "Nasuverse." Kara no Kyoukai is a work that he wrote before Tsukhime, and several parallels between the two are very easy to see. Shiki Ryougi is the female from KnK and her abilities roughly translate into Shiki Tohno's abilities in Tsukihime, though from the perspective of the Nasuverse, the two abilities are quite different in execution. Shiki Tohno's appearance is drawn from another character in KnK known as Mikiya Kakuto, a character who all the women in KnK wanted to fuck. This attractiveness also carried over to Shiki Tohno in Tsukihime. Azaka Kakuto of KnK and Akiha Tohno of Tsukihime have almost identical roles.

That is why Shiki Ryogi is said to be a prototype of Shiki Tohno: KnK was basically a prototype of Tsukihime.

And now I'd like to say something regarding the differences between Shiki Ryogi's Mystic Eyes of Death Perception and Shiki Tohno's MEoDP. Both allow them to see lines on all the objects and people around them, lines that they are able to trace using sharp objects, thus causing the target to be cut in two through the same place as the line cut. Though the eyes are used to similar affect, they are accomplished in entirely different ways.

Shiki Ryogi's MEoDP allow her to see the inherent flaws of all objects around her in the form of lines, thus forming weak spots she is able to cut.

Shiki Tohno actually sees the ultimate fate of all objects around him, that ultimate fate inevitably being destruction, so, when it comes right down to it, he is seeing the targets "death" in the form of the lines (though the lines he sees are in different positions from the lines Shiki Ryogi sees). No living creature was meant to see death like that, so doing so causes massive stress to Shiki Tohno's brain, thus forcing him to wear the Magangoroshi, or the glasses he constantly wears, to keep from seeing them. Shiki Tohno also is able to see dots from which all of these death lines spread. Hitting a target here causes the target's very concept to be destroyed.

Shiki Ryogi does not possess the weakness of needing to wear the Magangoroshi to keep from dying as her eyes do not put any stress on her as Shiki Tohno's do on him. She cannot see the dots, but in the end that hardly matters since otherwise hers work the same. There is one other major difference in that while Shiki Tohno’s MEoDP have the ability to destroy absolutely anything regardless of what they are, Shiki Ryogi cannot kill targets that do not possess inherent flaws such as the Magangoroshi or Gods, though the very existence of said Gods is questionable in the first place.

Want more? Roa/SHIKI isn't as weak as people say he is. His Mystic Eyes of Life Perception are just as powerful as Shiki Ryogi's and Shiki Tohno's MEoDP. Physical strength is average for a vampire, which should at least equal that of Ryogi and Nanaya. He lost to Arc because she's fucking Arc and was extremely powerful even without most of her power. Tohno defeating him was forced plot anyway and manga is going for a more realistic end. Also of note is that his true power wasn't defined until after Tsukihime was released. He wasn't really intimidating until now, really.

The only reason Tohno survived was protagonist hax. They killed Arc in one hit, though she was already fighting back her bloodlust at this point.

1. Original Roa was done in by a combined effort of the Church's weapons and agents and Arc. Let's not forget Roa beat the FUCK out of Atlrouge, and in a very short time. And Alt > Arc.

2. Shiki beat SHIKI because most of Shiki's attacks have the element of absolute surprise. SHIKI thought up until that point that their abilities were the same. Then he was dead of point stabbing. "I'll show you what it means to really kill things."

3. This was after getting THOROUGHLY chopped up by a hallway collapse. This was also AFTER 30% Arc unleashed a Marble Phantasm on him, so Roawas already winded--his own admission.

4. Roa's other defeats have also been the direct result of inattention and neglect in the Tsukihime story (eaten up/chopped up by Akiha, beaten by Ciel/Shikil only for him to QUANTUM LEAP at the last second).

5. In a straight up fight, it's as Nasu typically loves to write. "For all their extras, they're still human. They can't compare." Both Shiki's would be fucked.
