Speed and one of the few true IADs. Also, a very quick 2A that can only be chained into 2A and Illusion Dom. She also has a lot of gimmick crossup combos, especially if you use her alt 214. She excels during Blue Sky though. Almost makes up for Typhoon completely fucking her over. Most of her good combos are air to air though which takes a lot of practice and muscle memory to react approriately depending on spacing and placement.
But yeah, confirms on her are insanely tight which is extremely hard with netplay lag and all her real combos take up 3+ meter to do barely 2k if you're lucky, so she has a lot of issues.

Pretty much everything about her is fast. Her bullet are fast, her normals are quick. She needs to be close to do anything decent but it's real easy to get in people with her high movement speed.

Every hit she lands is a combo. You got hit with a random B bullet? Combo for limit into oki into mixup. You have to know her well, but after a certain point it's hard to avoid being tagged.

Okuu gets crappy damage(for her) off 3A, one of her best normals, and she has terrible movement. Her random B bullet tags don't give her anything at all. Everything Aya lands will go into a combo for about the same damage, provided you know the situation in which it hit. In SWR she still had the same frustating "get tagged get combo'd" scheme, except she did 3.5k for every combo, and ridiculous movement on top of it. Much needed nerf imo.

All characters and all players are the same in your eyes, and thus you will do the same thing for each of them, regardless of who it is or what character they are using. I'm not skilled enough with Reimu or Yukari to be able to sense this, but with Komachi I can feel it in two matches or so.

There's blind rushdown, and there's rushdown where you consider what the opponent can do, and virtually all times where I was tagged, your muscle memory flipped on, and your intuition turned off.

I'm not sure if you were swapping characters out of boredom, to keep it fresh, or to see if I was bad at a particular matchup(when you picked Okuu the first time it certainly felt like you were testing if I could beat 4/5A mash), but it's not the character I'd lose to. Not trying to hate on your personal game or anything, but if you can keep your impulses back and your improv at the forefront, you'd be a lot stronger(which is to say, I think you are quite strong as it is).

That's mostly what I thought would happen. xD I'm used to fighting games, but I never got into the thick of serious Touhou play because I mostly play it with friends whose 'serious' is nothing short of 'casual.'

I'm surprised I did so bad on wake-up though, and I failed a lot more Grazings than I felt I should have...if it was lag, it was the only lag I felt the whole time though. That Spellcard at the end there was extremely /derp though.

I think you were already doing plenty of clever things. Good 3A setups as always, using 623C to graze through my bullets and hit the melee follow-up, purple fan and that 2card knives spell, pressuring at your leisure safely with timeknives instead of taking too great of risks.

I'm tempted to try running sperm punch against Sakuya, but lavapound is just so good for pressure, combos, and use against unsafe aerials.

Yeah, 6B is useful to interrupt and annoy chars who have bullets with slow startup (alice, okuu, yuyuko, etc...).
As for typhoon, it comes down to having the right skills/spellcards. If you've leveled up the 22 skills (except SP dolls), you should be fine. What I do is try to set dolls close to one another, and then stand in the middle of them. If my opponent rushes in, I just take a hit and use the 22 skill to come out ahead in damage.

You're not the only one. I have issues playing Perfect Freeze too. No other names come to mind. Was playing Rabbit-Box smooth as silk just before you though.
I'm sure it's just me being too fast on the inputs so it's frustration at myself mostly. I'm spoiled on buffering engines. I am better about slowing down now and leaving open frames than I used to be, but especially when I try to go on the offense, I tend to go too fast, so even the smallest hint of lag seems to turn attempts at stuff like D691236C into D66C for extra durrr. I also can't stop myself from trying to IB sometimes which is just asking for trouble in lag and any system without held guards.

Aya deserves a little luck every now and then for being Aya. There's massive proration on the initial hit usually. I just got lucky and dropped the confirm only to accidentally catch you backdashing away. Be glad it wasn't during scorching sun. That tacks on about 2,500 extra damage (to both) and restores half her hand.

You can actually fly above it, weirdly enough, and since Aya doesn't have a good upward attack, there's not a ton she can do, especially close up since her j8A whiffs at close range. If you're caught on the ground, it may still be best to try to get upward, even if it takes a BE to do it. The rocks don't do much spirit damage either, so you could also just stay on the ground and block. Aya's basic projectiles take as much spirit as damage they do, so she can't tack on pressure well either without using charging them which you can either poke out of or do a quick dash/triangle dash to avoid.
Worst case, just hop up a little and take a hit. It'll bounce you above the rocks in a couple hits and let you deadfall down. By the time you ground tech, the card will be almost over.

That card does have some hilarious properties against certain other spellcards though. It pushes Slash of Eternity out of the big hit and completely obliterates Suika's MPP.
