Youkai are awesome, especially the human-base ones. Those are often made when someone is so pissed that they aren't taking reality's shit anymore, it's apparently possible to be so angry that you literally explode into a seven feet tall, blood-red demon. My favorite is this guy.

There's also Taira no Masakado who was apparently not very content with being beheaded, so his disembodied head came back to life and hopped his way to Tokyo to voice his complaints, like a samurai yukkuri that can't quite take it easy. And Kiyohime, who transformed into a giant snake in her yandere rage when she was spurned by the monk she fell in love with. I still wonder why there isn't a H-doujin of that yet, angry snakegirl rape would be awesome.

Another nice story is that of a girl who coveted a treasured family mirror so much that when she was forced to give it up to be used in constructing a temple bell, her regret bound her soul to the mirror and prevented it from being melted. When this was revealed, she committed suicide out of shame, and her soul continued to haunt the temple bell. So if you covet a figurine or doll too much, your soul may end up slowly being bound to it, until one day you wake up in your room as a little girl made out of PVC.

My favorite human-base youkai are the zashiki-warashi though, which vary in appearance and disposition from little luck-bringing kids to fucking Vhailor (apparently dutybound spirits returning from death to serve their purpose also qualify as a form of zashiki-warashi. )

It's said that you can even bind a spirit into a mirror (which needs to be 15 years old, I think... The ritual is also done on new moons, but I don't remember it clearly) by putting the mirror into water and drawing a demon's face in it with a brush. You can then send your mirror-demon against your foes like some sort of archaic youkai-Pokemon.

Hell, I wish that worked. I'd draw a cute girl instead of a monster and bind my own soul to it, becoming a mirror-bound little girl for all eternity. Hunting down owners of nie no chi optional.

You'll also have to kill all potential beast type youkai before they reach a specific age, or just exterminate their species entirely (recall Toyotomi Hideyoshi tried something to that effect once). Also you will have to keep track of the age of every specific manmade object worldwide, to keep it from becoming tsukumogami.

The plan is getting better, but a whole lot more complicated.

Why would youkai specifically target babies? Babies can't fight back and don't know the meaning of fear.

Anons guide to killing Grunt youkai:
Step one:
Bring a Gun and shoot the target in the head
If target is not in the form of a young Pre-pubescant Girl and is on all fours twos ETC bring larger Guns. and aim for the Head the use of pre set traps and metal nets will also Aid your cause. The reason why you aim for the Head is because Youkai can regenrate from wounds faster than a regular human this is due to Some sort of Diffrence in brain matter As a youkais brain controls the speed of regenration Disrupting this Can commonly Kill the youkai or weaken it depending on what type of youkai it is.
