Could a powerful-for-a-netbook netbook, like a HP Mini 210, run the following?

[ ] The Touhou
[ ] Fallout 1/2
[ ] Deus Ex
[ ] Freelancer
[ ] Half-Life 2/Team Fortress/Valve Miscellanea

The memory and processor speed are both comparable to those of a notebook computer, but the graphics card is just a chip. (An Intel GMA 3150 to be precise.)

I have an EEEPC that runs the Touhou games fine. I don't know about the other games, though. Some older, full-screen games might have problems if you have a weird screen resolution.

>> No.6470838

Fallout? Yeah, definitely. Deus Ex? Maybe, that Unreal Engine doesn't fuck around.

Also, a telephone from 1987 can run Touhou.

There is only one, true Yuri.

I don't know about the first person shooters, but you should be able to run Touhou and Fallout just fine. Freelancer might not run, either, I'm not sure.

If my old laptop, with her pitiful processor, ram, and gfx, never has problems with Touhou or HL2, they can be run on anything. Never tried the others, though.

We are talking about a netbook here.

>> No.6470855

Freelancer is surprisingly easy to run. My old P4 rig had no problem with it, and its graphics card was only a step above a Voodoo 3.

I love my laptop, but honestly, she's comparable to a modern netbook in power.

Polite sage. Polite sage EVERYWHERE.

As an integrated GPU, it does not contain its own memory. I recommend you get yourself a good amount of RAM on your system, as it will be used by both your CPU and GPU. The bandwith for the chip itself looks decent, better than my Nvidia FX5500 for sure, especially if you get yourself 3g+ memory, cant stress that one enough.

Do note that an atom processor, although clocking at the same as a notebook or desktop CPU, delivers around half the performance of your run of the mill Pentium in flops.

I dont know about any other games other than touhou to compare OP, but I have experienced framerate drops during UFO, and other touhous during high density danmaku. I do tend to underestimate the resource consumption of the games though, and run many background applications, but even then, just hope your games are not very CPU dependent.

And get lots of memory for your system.

/g/ would probably know better.

Touhou should run fine, but I'd expect Source games to have some trouble.

>> No.6470891

But UFO was the worst Windows specific Touhou release so yeah.

>> No.6470887

The source engine games should be ok if you run them in DX8 mode. Vanilla HL2 supports DX7 even iirc. Though Left4dead, and probably any future games, won't support DX 7/8.

>> No.6470885

I've got a netbook with 2 gigs ram and a decent processor, I thought it should run things most things alright, but no, it can't. It runs HL2 (and hence TF2 and Counter Strike: Source) for shit. Minimum settings still get single-digit FPS, they're just unplayable. It's the (not so good) onboard graphics that hampers netbooks. They're not built for gaming whatsoever.

Touhou should probably run fine, though. Deus Ex.. you mean the original one? Also Fallout 1/2? Those should marginally run alright too. I don't know for sure, but I do know that Starcraft 1 runs fine on my netbook and so I'd assume that Fallout's good as well. If you're using ultra fancy mods or some such on Deus Ex, that might dampen your FPS.

Team Fortress 2 supports DX8, but some of the fancier effects are disabled. (If you just HAVE to see your glowing pink hat, you're out of luck.)
