You should think /jp/ as Gensokyo and /jp/ users as a bunch of cute girls in frilly dresses. Once in a while, one of them gets bored and causes an incident, hence troll threads. Our lazy janitor, taking the role of the equally lazy Reimu, eventually gets around to deleting the thread, or solving the incident. Threads like those or the VN translation ones are the festivals, so everybody gets together and has fun while taking it easy.

Mark my words, one of those days each and every /jp/ user will wake up as a cute girl, some of them with spiral horns, crystalline wings or other bizarre animal parts growing out of their bodies. Nonchalant, each of them will open their computers and keep posting on /jp/ while drinking tea, now immortal and able to repeat this routine everyday. The only thing that would change is that the special abilities they get would make them even lazier (no one would leave their houses to get food anymore, they'd make simple shikigami out of paper and send them, we'd also have annual shikigami fight contests). and they would masturbate even more often.

It's hard to visit Hakurei shrine anyway, being surrounded by a youkai infested forest doesn't make it any easier for a human to get there.
Plus the human world equivalent looks completely normal, just another sort of abandoned shrine among thousands. It would take a lot to realize you stepped into another realm.

Getting the RAWs for SaBND wasn't that hard. Before we picked it up Voile was in charge of scanlating it. One chapter every two months or something similar. They're still want to continue doing SaBND or so I've heard. From other sources I've also heard that they completely dropped it. Don't know which version is true.

This series has come a long way since it was just a bunch of random uninteresting doodles. I mean, serious business talk about the border, and from Yukari? That's high quality doujin stuff. Never thought I would like an official manga this much, other than the inabas, but here I am eagerly waiting for more fairies.

So, wait, how does the border work? It's evident it's not some kind of barrier or any kind of visible boundary. Yet Gensokyo is said to be a distinct geographical area and there's no indication anywhere that lands around it have their own versions in the mythological dimension.

Nothing seems to be stopping anyone from leaving Gensokyo, what happens if they try to do it?

Well Youkai Mountain is Mt Yatsugatake before it blew its top and that also happens to be right near lake Suwa. The fact that both still exist in the real world coupled with this tree existing as both a Gensokyo and a real world version implies Gensokyo took a copy of some region in Japan then slapped it into a dimension where forgotten or magical things go to exist.

Also take this quote from Yukari, " Gensokyo was separated from the outside world by a border of common sense, and it existed within the borders of uncommon sense. To maintain the border as the way it was, everything needed a backside. "

I recommend rummaging around PMSS chapters that talk about regions, chapters of COLA that deal with the border and objects entering from it and the dialogues Maribel and Renko have in their music CDs.

The idea just came to me that maybe the Hakurei Shrine is located in Aokigahara (that place where people go to kill themselves.) Nobody will miss the suicides, whether they inadvertently wander into Gensokyo or youkai come out to eat them.

Aokigahara I think would just be a " feeding ground " or a place where people tend to slip in the barrier since the type of people who would go there to kill themselves are most likely forgotten or in the right state of mind to be spirited away. I don't think the actual shrine is located there.

My theory on potential locations is either somewhere in the various mountains and hilly areas near Mt Yatsugatake.

Somewhere near Mt Hiei because Gensokyo's human villagers are supposedly descendants of people who lived in some unknown region that hunted Youkai before the barrier went up.

The final place I think it could be is somewhere in between all of these places in some random nondescript location and Gensokyo made copies of various famous youkai infested or spiritual locations. For example Mt Osore is where the Sanzu River is supposedly located but that's way far north compared all of these other regions. Following that logic trail the Forest of Magic could be Aokigahara.

I've been stuck in Chapter 18 by almost 2 months ;_;
