I swear to fucking god, where do I have to go to talk about shootan' games around here? I remember when /v/ used to have SHMUP generals but now it's all Halo and Hat Fortress 2 and no one ever wants to talk about anything different.

At least you have an arcade. The closest thing I got is some family fun center and the only machines worth noting are 3rd Strike and Virtual-On, and those machines are terribly beaten up, they hardly work.

But yeah, shit sucks. I wish people still played arcade style games.

A few weeks ago we had a pretty great STG thread apart from idiots whining about calling them shmups, stg, danmaku etc.

DoDonPachi DFK in a few weeks! Guwange on Nov 10. Radirgy Noa Massive on the 28th of this month. Should be some great gaming!

After some sporadic practice, I can almost 1CC Kamui on normal. I'm quite new to shmups and terrible at everything in general, but I am cutely trying my best!

Right now my strategy consists of doing pretty good up to the last boss, at which point I just close my eyes and mash all relevant buttons. I'm considering disabling some visual effects since a lot of my shields are lost to bullets hidden inside explosions.

Maybe I should've waited before playing this game until I can fully appreciate it, since people seem to consider it one of the best.

>> No.6306928

Have any of you checked out Space Invaders Infinity Gene? It's on XBLA/PSN and iDevices but the versions are different innsome ways.

I think it's a really solid STG. I really like the look of it and it has a great soundtrack too.

It's pretty cool because it starts out like the origianl SI, but as you play through the game changes. It sort of covers the "evolution" of shmups in a way I guess.

I've actually thought about doing that before, but I own several different sticks and have quite a large collection of games across all platforms so I don't know if I should. Yeah that's fair enough. Black is a but easier, more hypers and easier to maintain the chain. That and you can set a single loop game and Hibachi is at the end of loop 1.

I still enjoy White and play it often. The 360 arrange is pretty hectic. Psychedelic hypers cancelling bullets and racking up crazy chains everywhere. I prefer White and Black by far but it's my favorite of the Arrange modes in CAVE ports for 360.

Is it as frustrating as Battle Garegga is? Everything about that game seems like it's designed to infuriate me. Oh hey you get a plane and it's either too fast or too slow. Oh hey you have to be crazy careful or you'll shoot some enemy on the wrong side of the screen and they'll drop a medal you can't reach in time and break your chain. Oh hey you take forever to die so it's impossible to get your powerups back before they drop off the screen. Oh hey bombs take forever to start up. Oh hey enemy shots are invisible.

That's part of it, yes. Doesn't really take THAT long, though. I didn't really have a problem with it because dodging boss bullet patterns is my favorite thing in shooters.

basically how it works is, when you use your B-shot, it sticks to the enemy I guess you could say, up to 15 times. I fully charged B-shot without miss will get you all 15. So when you kill an enemy with your A-shot it starts up a multiplier based on the amount of "bubbles" that were stuck to the enemy. It's simple but I found it really fun.
