i work online & dont have to go in for anything, so i'm planning to move to a different country to live for a while. my job relies on a fast internet connection, faster the better, and japan's internet speed absolutely screams. i found an apartment for 600 a month, which is 300 less than i'm paying to live in the US right now.

i'm not clear on the rules for unemployed temporary residence in japan. i know theres a 90 day visa limit. how do i push past that?

>> No.622899

3 options:

- work visa, meaning you need a job
- cultural visa, meaning you need to study and/or find a job
- illegal

>> No.622904

there are much better places than Japan to live if you're not tied down. Also, Japanese internet is slow outside Japan (it's like a country-wide LAN, so Japanese sites will be fast, but american ones will be slow)

>> No.622931

the other places i've been looking at are guadalajara, bali, hong kong, and costa rica, but most other places have shit internet

oh, plus i'm studying japanese right now. my spanish is already pretty good, and despite being able to speak some mandarin, i wont catch any in hong kong as it's mostly english/cantonese. i want to be able to speak 5 or 6 languages by the time i'm 40, so that kind of factors in the place.

regarding the illegal option... the apartment i found is cash-only & it's kind of a dive. my name isn't on any bills & i don't have to sign any paperwork, so it's pretty obviously set up for people to do exactly that, so the only way my name gets on anything is when i use my ATM card at the post office.

how good is japan about keeping up with people & deporting them, and if i get deported will i have a criminal record in the US, and will i have time to pack up my computer equipment & ship it back?

I can vouch that Guadalajara is a decent place. Booming tech industry there, assuming you want to get an office job.

i'm not really internship material. i can't handle wearing a suit and i'm generally unreliable & lazy, and i get unmotivated quickly. i'm basically the definition of NEET, i just happen to run an online business that brings in enough cash to support me

Clarification

>- work visa, meaning you need a job
You need a bachelors degree and a Japanese company that is willing to give you a job, sponsor you for a visa, and take responsibility for any trouble you might get in while there.

>- cultural visa, meaning you need to study and/or find a job
Immigration requires that any subject you plan on studying for a cultural visa be something that you can document substantial study in your home country and a school or instructor in Japan willing to sponsor you. If you want to study Kendo in Japan, you will have to have evidence of studying Kendo in the US for several years, letters of recommendation from instructors, and a school or instructor in Japan willing to take you in and sponsor you for a visa.

>- illegal
Japan is one of the strictest countries in the world on illegal immigration, and if you try it you will probably get caught. If you get caught, the best case scenario is you get deported and banned from the country for 5 years. More likely you will do some jail time before being deported and banned permanently.

They are very good. If you renew your tourist visa every 90 days (by going to korea and back) they they probably won't care as long as you pay your taxes. But the instant you overstay your visa or fail to pay your taxes, they will come looking for you and you probably won't have any time to ship your computer. They will haul your ass to jail immediately. I doubt you'll have a criminal record in the US, but you will probably never be able to go to Japan again.

OP. I think living in Seoul, Korea for a year or so would be the better move. Fast Internet? Check. Bleeding edge electronics? Check. Coolass (non-wapanese) foreigners to get smashed with? Mother-fucking-check. Bonus points if you like Starcraft, or Korean women.
Look into it.

it's 100% user created content, so every time you move or look around or teleport you have to download hundreds of 1024x1024 images. plus for running multiple bots, it's not very efficient. also, when you cross region boundaries, if you lag too much, SL just drops you. even in the US i've been on connections that are too slow to handle it properly.

SL is running better here than it does for me in america
