This is awesome, others are just jealous that their country isn't deeply intertwined with Japan like ours is.

And just as an FYI, during the Korean War the US offered Japan the option to permanently rebuild/re-arm its military so that it could help out the Allies. Japan turned down the opportunity even though it was a chance to continue their dominance over the Korean sector, assuming that the Allies won. Well they half-won, but still, imagine if SK was now still a dominion of Japan instead of the US, and Japan didn't need to rely on the US' military strength for protection. I'm guessing that, as far as wanting true self-sufficiency/independence etc they didn't think things through in the long run, when the Japanese turned down this offer and what it meant.

So don't blame the U.S for sheltering Japan so much; we gave them the full-blown rearmament option right around when the literal/actual occupation of Japan was ending, and they flat-out rejected it.

Quite frankly, I think they were kind of tired of fighting in mainland Asia. If they had rearmed, they'd be dealing with seriously pissed off Koreans and Chinese now, rather than just kind of pissy at times Koreans and Chinese. Well, the issues themselves are just four little short stories. That's it. I mean, the US MIlitary is poring through these, so they couldn't be anything too objectionable.

It's hard to predict how Japan will take these. I don't think it's remotely possible that they would publicly admit to liking it, honestly no country would willingly admit to loving having propaganda shoved down their throats. If they secretly like it then yeah you might see some interesting doujins popping up.

Imo what's most likely is that they will either basically not care at all. That, or undergo a pissy-screaming-kid-at-the-supermarket tantrum, and have protests where they're all throwing away or burning the comics. I wouldn't put it past them.
