I don't know what that comment is talking about, but if it's something against Japanese music, I agree.

Actually, I think this post is about J-metal, based on the description of the music. It disses J-pop, too, though.

/a/ doesn't know there's any other kind of Japanese music and /mu/ is too busy trying to decide if that guitar solo in that one progressive atmospheric nu-disco dream funk metal band's song sounded more tannic or dyadic.

I think pretty much the only Japanese music I've ever liked = instrumentals. Lots of good composers have made some great video game music over the years.. There are a few other composers who write decent jazz or operatic music, and I liked YMO's early years very much for their balls-to-the-wall use of synth (well, at least it was innovative back then).

Then again the kind of music I like is 80s-70s rock (as in Queen, Talking Heads etc), 80s metal (not counting foppish hair-bands, I hate those) and a bit of 90s grunge. Japan is fucking terrible (or just plain not applicable) with these. Although I do also very much like ambient music, experimental electronica/techno/IDM, and there is some neat stuff from Japan in that regard, but again that falls under instrumentals.

It bothers me that talented musicians like Shiina Ringo,Tokyo Jihen,The Telephones,Bloodthirsty Butchers among others get ignored and overlooked while people (mostly normalfags) go on to say things like HERP DERP ALL JAPANESE MUSIC IS SHIT BECAUSE ANIME OPENING SONGS ARE THE REPRESENTATIVE OF JAPANESE MUSIC.

Am I mad? No, just disappointed. I never thought people could be so stupid.

If you like grunge, you should give Boris a shot. They manage to stick to early grunge's feel (Melvins and Mudhoney type stuff) instead of the polished grunge pop it turned into in America. Try the album Heavy Rocks.

>>5598047

The Europeans were experimenting with noise as a musical concept since the early 20th century. All Japan really did was create a noise scene that wasn't full of douchebags going "I made random noises for ten minutes, aren't I a deep and cerebral person."

And they might actually be saying that in Japanese anyway.

Japan has a great trance scene. They do a great job of combining layered ambient and noise elements with techno thumps that feels a lot more complex and satisfying than the chunky bluntness on all fronts of most European electronic music.

It's amusing that they produce all this good hardcore and gabber, and the most they do at a live show is... pump their fist. Hell, at any concert that's all they really do.

I mean, if you had this playing -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdfi4F3pcFk -- wouldn't you want to mosh the fuck out? I don't get the Japanese sometimes.

>> No.5598231

Before the doujin scene in Japan could teach what good electronic music was, I mostly associated it with Swedish trash music. Now I'd name electronica as one of my favourite music genres. The bad part is that I also realized that most of the other stuff I initially listened to was shit, aside from a few indie bands.

>> No.5598427

>>5598219

I'd probably just dance.

Moshing is for assholes unless you're at a metal show, and even then it should be kept in one area.

When I go to a concert I go to enjoy the band I'm seeing either with myself or among my friends. I'm not interested in playing "let's push each other" with people who smell bad.

If you wanna mosh in Japan, go to a death metal band's show. The most you'll find at a rave is energetic dancing. Some of them rock the fuck out.

Most of them simply jumping with their hands in the air is a combination of spatially conservative venues and a culture that stresses personal reserve, though.

Japanese punk and grindcore scene is pretty good. Noise is pretty terrible, for the most part.
