The bone part is obviously a metaphor for the framework that keeps something from falling.
His swords are his mental image, without him the swords won't hold their shape and fall apart.

Now I won't dwell on other things but that particular line always felt so natural to me that I had a hard time finding it funny.
Things like it isn't that uncommon in poetry, something his chant is.

f/sn has plenty of other weird points, it just puzzles me how the "I am the bone of my sword" line became such a joke.

From what I understand, it came out of the dispute whether "bone" was the intended word, or the Engrish corruption of "bane" (which makes about as little sense).
Then there was the understanding that "bone of my sword" sounded a whole lot less cheesy than "bane of my sword" anyway.

I had that whole internal dialogue with myself first time I heard it too. Bone sounds weird to me because I don't really associate it as much with "internal supporting structure" as with "large erect shaft". "I am the skeleton of my sword" would make sense to me instantly, though I admit it wouldn't sound as poetic.
