I don't think companies would be aware of pace by which JAST is translating stuff when they'd be negotiating. Peter wouldn't tell them for sure, and it's not like they have a relationship with people from here to tell them about it.

So they may actually sign a partnership without being aware they are being scammed (not really, but not very far from the truth in that case).

Just to whet your appetites, I can say that there will be at least one new game announced at tonight's panel (or should I say tomorrow morning, being a eurofag and all), and looking at my release schedule for the next year, maybe even four or five. I know we haven't officially announced what I'm doing after Zaishuu yet, and the translation for it's already done...

Oh, and Dear Drops *is* on that schedule, assigned to Kouryuu himself. But that's not really an announcement.

It's on the schedule after Koihime. Can't remember if it's in parallel with or after DC2 translation fixes. It's well worth waiting for - you will experience some scenes like they're new for the first time from it.

It's nice that Edelweiss is being retranslated, but unless MG plans to do the same for Hinata Bokko, they're better off removing it from their catalog. I can only imagine a first-time customer's reaction if they were to pay good money for such an unprofessional product. IMO, while Hinata Bokko was cute fluff, I question whether it would be worth the effort.

I prefer JAST to MangaGamer because of the DRM issue.

That actually IS the title. Both Higurashi and Umineko are part of the "When They Cry" series.

Just... translating it as "Higurashi- When They Cry" when many people would have no idea what a higurashi is strikes me as sort of unprofessional.

Besides, "When the Cicadas Cry" is a far better-sounding title to begin with.

Furthermore, every time they're brought up in the game, the name is capitalized. Which might make some people think they're some sort of horrible legendary monster, I dunno.

Higurashi are a specific breed of cicadas that cry in the evening, yeah, but "cicadas" is still a perfectly legitimate translation.

I'm aware of that, and I'm aware that only the higurashi sing during dramatic instances (although this is because nearly all dramatic instances happen in the evening).

Well, in that case, if the word simply doesn't have an English equivalent (and 'higurashi, unlike 'tanuki', or, hell, 'umineko', does not) then you'd leave it as-is while putting a translation note SOMEWHERE.

They should have translated HIgurashi to Tanna japonensis.
