I can't say much for Higurashi, but for Umineko and his latest manga, Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni, it has disappointed me. It's strange how a majority of the women have more problems than the men. (Krauss, George and Rudolph have their share of problems.)

I really don't know about Shannon as we haven't seen any major 'heart-wrenching' back story and she seems fine with George, putting aside his yandere disposition. Don't feel like jumping on the bandwagon in Jessica's case.

Battler is probably the only normal one, as he's been absent from this bullshit for 6 years.

I can't go into exact details because some have been or are still running/involved in important companies and I don't want anything to go around. Anyway you have your typical stuff like backstabbing, ripping off of money and various manipulative things. A few family members have been delusional on a Eva/Natushi level but not to the extant of murder. One was so bad that he actually practically lived a second life, while not harming anyone directly it was bad enough that he made the news and was thrown in prison for a bit.

The one who made the root fortune that a lot of the relatives are successful from was some kind of genius who was known for doing quirky things. Father said he'd do things like sleep in the bathroom and hang tissue/toilet paper out to dry in order to somehow reuse them. Great Aunt said when they were teetering off some cliff in their car after a pileup when she got over the initial shock and looked to her side for him he was already out of the car and gone checking on the other cars.

My father was notorious for having numerous lovers, claims to have possibly slept with over a thousand woman. Personality is highly similar to Rudolf. Mother is like Kyrie, basically an opposite to my father that evens him out and manages most of our money. Been doing a lot of the thinking for him as he's gotten older. She's come at my dad with a knife more than a few times and I wouldn't doubt she'd kill him if pushed enough. When I was growing up I thought of her as one of those anime super women but then I kind of realized it was a lot scarier than that. She doesn't show it too often but she builds up a real kind of slow simmer jealousy, only kind of see it when one of my dads ex lovers comes around stalking him.

Aside from my parents I distance myself from most of the family, both figuratively and literally as I live across the country from them. I haven't seen a lot of my relatives in over 15 years. I used to be in part of the will of my grandparents but various things have shown it's obvious my cousins have manipulated anything I would get towards themselves already. Anyway, probably not as interesting as you'd thought it be. Sorry I couldn't embellish it a little more.

Seriously though - I know where you're coming from. My mother's family aren't mega-rich like yours apparently are, but they're quite well-off and are big social players where they live. A lot of them also have similar views about men being superior to women, not to the point of active oppression (that I know of), but the male children are so heavily favored over the female ones that it's just disgusting, and has given most of the women in the family major complexes and big personality problems due to having to live with it.

My mother was victim to this as well - she showed horrible and obvious favoritism of her youngest son, while her other children received substandard care and sometimes emotional and physical abuse (Rosa-level shit. I wish I were joking. I was forced to scrub bathroom fixtures with a toothbrush while she screamed at me because she thought I took something from my little bro's room.)

Rosa hits too close to home for me; makes it kind of hard to enjoy parts of Umineko.
