Is there any special type of furniture used for sitting on the floor? Like do the japanese lean against something or what?

Was just reading this - 1/3rd japanese surf sitting on the floor
http://whatjapanthinks.com/2007/11/19/almost-one-third-of-japanese-surf-sitting-on-the-floor/

how does that work?

They sit on pillows. The pillows cushion their NoAss.

I don't know what these seiza chairs are called. Anyways they apparently exist though no one uses them.

People just sit on the tatami, usually with a pillow under their legs.

Also, this is not /jp/ related in the slightest.

ok so i assume the computer is on a coffee table of some sort. do they sit on a pillow with their legs straight out? cause that means you'd need some sort of back support as well probably in that position.

I have no problem sitting at my coffee table on my knees or cross-legged for 4+ hours. Maybe switching between the two positions now and again, but it's no real problem. I guess depending on your age, or just tolerance for being uncomfortable though could easily change that.
