I haven't played Touhou in a long time, but 2D games still beat the hell out of 3D games.

You don't really need the latest hardware in order to enjoy some glorious 2D.

I play Touhou for the music and cute lolis. I suck at the games but I try. I think games in general went to shit around PS1 era due to the switch to 3D. If not for Touhou and a couple of other games, I would have stopped gaming all together a few years ago.

I don't play many new games and I usually go for games with high replayability, so Toohoo and other STGs fit in well with my habits.

Not the newest box here, but recent 3D games should work fine on it, but I don't game that much. I haven't played touhou in a while.

There's no shame in playing 2D games, or using a SNES emulator and playing some old games, even if you have a recent GPU, a kickass CPU, and plenty of RAM.

I really think Shoot the Bullet and DS are amazing games.

When I play it, I sometimes stop and think, "What the fuck was ZUN thinking to have come up with such a great game?"

The only PC games I really still play are Touhou and Dwarf Fortress.

I'm not much for consoles, but I am playing Monster Hunter Tri. Did anyone here get it? I am lonely and with to make parties of 4 female characters.

But I do upgrade my computer frequently because I enjoy messing with her, and you need a supercomputer to run an Illusion game at more than 10fps. It's a trade-off though, and I don't have any figures to show off.

I'm a sucker for 2D and old games. My PC is capable of playing current titles, though it's not top percentage any more. I'll occasionallybuy anything that takes my interest, but only once it's hit bargain bin prices - I just recently bought the Anno 1404 Limited Edition for £15.

I'm also not interested in FPS games. There's a handful I enjoy, but it's not a genre that captures my imagination.

I don't own any current gen home consoles, but I'll get around to buying a PS3 once there's a larger pool of games I'm interest in get released. I do however own a DS and have a few armful of games.

tl;dr Just because you have the system to play new games doesn't mean you can't enjoy old games or games that aren't memory hungry.

I play touhou because I quite like the gameplay and music and i haven't played a console/non-doujin computer game for 4 years because apparently "they get in the way of work" (lol indian parents).

Most of the time, the game "hard" mode is simply to multiply by 4 the enemies health. How is it more challenging? It's simply longer and a waste of time. A difficulty level should mean more complexity and should require more skill. That's what new games lack.

My computer actually is really outdated. I tried playing some free MMO because I enjoy grinding.

Unlimited save/load/continue just killed any joys in finishing a game. Nowadays you finish the games for the story not because it is difficult.

It used to mean something when you beat a game, it is like FUCK YEAR when you finally finish megaman entirely or finish all 100levels of bubble bobbles. The current generation of games will not give you the self satisfaction of beating the games and this is what touhou provide. The joy of 1ccing Touhou for the first time will not be replicated in any other games.

There are many fucking games that the essence is solely the gameplay, and do not care about story or characters.
The fact that they are not the bestsellers or what companies will advertise as a hook for consumers is a different issue.
If you actually believe this is the case, you underestimate how fucking huge the videogame market is today.
And that's not even including indie developers or smaller project games that even if they wanted to, would not be able to make a grand 60 hour game that runs on story and cinematics. You by yourself mentioned Touhou, which had releases in recent years(though MEMORIZATION PATTERN FEST is not my grand idea of accomplishment, but whatever rocks your boat).
