Tracing doesn't really teach you shit.
and visual copying doesn't go very far either.
Gotta study dem realism principles and practice until your pencil hand is blistered and bloody.

You can get better by copying if you actively think about what exactly it is you're copying.
Instead of just 'so this line goes at this angle', you think 'I see, it's like that because of the stylised perspective - learnt something new' or similar thoughts.
