There has been a question lingering in my mind for a while now.

Why is reimuu such a bitch? Off all things she could ever do as a miko, why does she interfere into other people's business? Why can she only destroy when others create? Why must she spoil everything?

Why is she such a bitch?

>There was no real threat in PoFV or MoF.
This is half correct. There was no real threat in PoFV. There was one in MoF. In fact, the threat was the reason Kanako sent Sanae to the Hakurei Shrine to talk Reimu into making Kanako the new patron deity for the shrine.

She didn't know that among the youkai of Gensokyo, there existed a number of powers. Nevertheless, she collected the faith of the mountain youkai, and attained great divine virtue. She did not realize that this meant that the power of the mountain youkai, in other words the tengu and the kappa, were becoming too great.

With that, there was the fear that the power balance of tranquil Gensokyo would collapse.

Kanako thought that to keep Gensokyo's balance, she must now acquire the faith of the youkai and humans beneath the mountain.

To achieve that, she must utilize the Hakurei Shrine else things won't proceed smoothly. Much remained before should would be able to regain the same amount of faith she'd had in the outside world.

Remilia was blotting out the sun with her red mist. Crops surely wilted, farms were on the verge of collapse, famine was invetable. Many humans would have perished.

Yuyuko captured spring, leading to a never ending winter. Her selfish desire to break the seal on a single tree would have lead to the deaths of those who rely on the changing seasons. She also had the border between life and death broken; what kind of world would that be were the dead and the living have no separation?

Suika was just making a mess of things.

The Lunarians took the moon away; many residents of Gensokyo rely on the moon for sustenance. The Lunarians are fugitives, criminals; they had no right to do what they did.

Sikieiki started that fight.

Kanako moved in and set up shop without permission; she's the Mexican of Gensokyo, leeching off the blood of the hard working residents who were already established.

Reimu is what holds Gensokyo together. Without her, chaos and madness would ensue. She is a hero, and her efforts make sure the sun rises at least one more day.

>> No.477412

In MoF it was finally brought forward that Reimu never worked.

Reimu never collected any faith so no one gained power.
When a third shrine showed up, they should collect faith from the mountains whereas the Hakurei should collect the humans' and other youkai's faith to keep the balance.

I don't see how Reimu solved that problem in the MoF endings. I just see more power for the mountain youkai and a still slacking of Reimu.

You mean the red mist that only lasted a day at the most? I'm pretty sure it takes more than a day for crops to wilt and for farms to be on the verge of collapse.

>The Lunarians took the moon away; many residents of Gensokyo rely on the moon for sustenance.
This is false. The only reason they went out to get the moon back was because the full moon was necessary for the festival on the following night for the youkai. They also didn't know that the Earth and Moon were only going to be sealed temporarily for the duration of the full moon.

>Kanako moved in and set up shop without permission; she's the Mexican of Gensokyo, leeching off the blood of the hard working residents who were already established.
I know you didn't just call Reimu hard-working. Lazy bitch is lazy. Also, the tengu and kappa willing accepted Kanako since they viewed shrines as a place to play considering that was what they were used to at the Hakurei Shrine. But now that they have a shrine much closer to where they live, they didn't have to go down to the Hakurei Shrine anymore. They could just play and worship at Moriya Shrine. Reimu just got jealous that Moriya Shrine was more popular than her place.

There's a difference between the sealing off of Gensokyo and the creation of the Great Hakurei Border. Yukari did the former. It was her proposal, she took care of the details, and she carried it out. Yukari created Gensokyo as it is today, but any youkai or human with even slightly significant power could come and go at any time. To fix this, the Hakurei maiden at the time (most likely the 12th) created the Great Hakurei Border. Youkai on the inside still have the ability to leave, but getting IN became much more difficult.

Gensokyo was originally a desolate, haunted region of Japan ages ago. The youkai that lived there began to terrorize the surrounding lands, and thus powerful, heroic humans were sent to exorcise and exterminate them. The off and on battle between humans and youkai continued on until 1884 A.D., when Gensokyo was sealed off from this increasingly scientific and skeptical world with the creation of the Hakurei Border. There has been little contact between our societies ever since. Today, the only known gateway between Gensokyo and this world is the Hakurei Shrine, which stands in isolation along the border on distant mountains of the far east.

Youkai Expansion Project, motherfucker, do you know it?

From PMiSS:
Youkai Expansion Project

A story from over 500 years ago.

The project refers to a plan designed and implemented by Yukari in order to restore power to the youkai of Gensokyo, who felt pressured by human expansion.

Until then Gensokyo was merely an isolated mountain place, but she planned to create the boundary between illusion and reality around Gensokyo, thus logically creating a new world.

By establishing Gensokyo as an illusionary world, and the outside as the real world, the youkai weakened by the outside world would naturally flock to Gensokyo; this was a truly epochal event.

No need to. The border wasn't good to begin with. You can just fly over it.

The netherworld is physical place in Japan. From outside the border you can see the large gate and wall surrounding it.

I think there many netherworlds, just like there is not only one Makai. It'd be a bit awkward if all mystic places are found in Japan.

Seeing as Gensokyo is a very large sphere in Japan, the netherworld is but a smaller sphere that either lies within the larger sphere or they partly overlap.

This is why in Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red Youmu is out retrieving ghosts that have wandered out of the Netherworld. And why when writing the article on Hakugyokurou she notes that somehow the border has become thinner.

The one who led the group was Konpaku Youmu (Half-human Half-ghost), who works as a gardener in the Netherworld.
I directly asked her in flight why she led the huge number of ghosts and where they headed for.

"I just came here to take everybody back to the Netherworld. Since the boundary between this world and the Netherworld is thin at the moment, a small trigger is enough to let them cross and hang around in this world. Yesterday the people here made an ancestor-greeting fire all over Gensokyo, because of that, some ghosts confused by the greeting and others that took advantage of this situation entered Gensokyo to play around.
