Can someone who was there last year tell about it? Was it fun? I wasn't following it very closely but from what I got it was mostly cringe panels like the one about KKHTA being the peak of fiction, a couple of tw*tter ecelebs with their beta orbiters and lots of fat/ugly dudes cosplaying.

Panels were indeed cringe but there were some with sovl like a panel with some kid who picked up violin again just to play some 2hu music. Things like buying gachimuchi edits of 2hus, seeing the artists, and playing games in the gaming hall was fun. Favorite part was just playing mahjong on the last day because some guy just rolled in with a table. Entire event was cringe at times but it didn't stifle my enjoyment of just being with a large group of people who enjoyed 2hus like I did.

I honestly considered going this year and as this anon >>46332255 said the experience of just gathering with other people into something Im also into would make me (hopefully) bear the second hand embarrassment. I bet I would be talking with plenty of people too, I also cosplay and this is a perfect moment to mess around and get photos taken. However, I dont have much incentive to bother getting a visa, taking time and money to go to the States just a con in California. Id rather got to Japan to get the Touhou experience if Im going through those hoops and I might next year.

Maybe someday if they continue doing this or something Touhou related happens in a state Im actually interested in.

It was very fun. I hadn't been to many conventions before and it blew my mind to the point where I now actively seek out gaming conventions.
I met up with an online friend, played in tournaments, played upcoming fan games, played Touhou songs in stepmania, played Danmaku!! (the card game), made a new (mostly online) friend. All while being in an environment full of fans, Touhou merch, cosplayers.

Any anons gone to this in the past? How much did you wind up spending? A bit interested to experience a con at least once but California is both on the other side of the country for me and seems like an incredibly expensive state. It seems like between just the flight, ticket, and hotel I'd already be at $500, on top of basic expenses+whatever I'd end up buying it'd probably be close to $1,000 which seems like a lot for just a two-day con and probably better off saved for an overseas trip.

I didn't spend too much, I think I spent more so on my hotel and food and exploring little tokyo than things at the con. Commiefornia is indeed an extremely expensive state, but you can definitely find areas to save money. I think overall I spent around 700$ but I also live a state away from that hell hole. You might be able to find dirt cheap economy tickets to and from since you're on the other side of the country. Tbh though, I wouldn't bother really going atm unless you have a friend you wanna visit or other business over there, the con was small enough that I'd recommend to just go for a day if you're curious.

There were some booths with doujins and other imported items which was cool to see in person than sadpanda, I bought a Tenshi poster and a con pin as well. If you live close to it I'd say just stop by for one day instead of both, the con really isn't that large in the first place.
