I once had the opportunity to wait on either a 2 and a 4 or a 6 and an 8. Two 2s and three 4s were already out there, but no 6s or 8s, so I declared richi and waiting on the 6s and 8s. I ended up drawing one of the 2s, and somebody put out another 4. Right at the end, somebody ron'D off of me, and guess what? HE HAD TWO UNDECLARED KONGS OF 6 AND 8.

Learn yaku and defense. On the first or second hand you had a perfectly fine pinfu iipeikou going and went for toitoi instead. A few times someone would riichi and you'd throw tiles that I thought were pretty reckless, but got lucky and didn't deal in. If north has a pair of Easts, he's probably waiting on an east and so almost any other tile I discard is safe, south doesn't have an East as he already discarded one and is clearly going for open tanyao, he's not going to hold one at this point, and while it's possible that east has a pair of Easts, he's in the lead and playing defensively, so the pair of easts should be the first things to come out of his hands at this point
