I think it's high time we figure out precisely what happened 6 years ago in Umineko.

First off, we can generally assume that the promise of importance is indeed the promise that Battler would come back on a white horse to take Shannon away.

Shannon flat out says it, and Jessica is fixated on that particular idea.

So the promise being a silly child-hood one that was taken WAY too seriously is true. My personal theory is that Shannon was told the promise, she took it seriously, then Battler failed to uphold it, she went insane, and just doesn't give a shit about it anymore.

What do you guys think?
