Kannagi Tenri (Ayame of Alia forma Cocoa Music) set an unrealistic goal of 40,000 subscribers for the end of May. She is currently at 19,300, with most of those subscribers being from her first few days due to the original fans who knew who she was. A few weeks ago, she said that she knew her goals (40k by end of May and 300k by end of year) were unrealistic and very difficult, but she would try her best anyway. Here we are today on May 24th, and she seems to be a bit upset about her lack of progress. I hope this doesn't turn into a numberfag situation, and she can appreciate the amazing 20,000 fans she has picked up in only one month. Sure. It will be a long post, but I can do my best to explain. I figured it would be asked sooner or later.
The vsinger thread on /vt/ has a long history of posting utaites and pretending they are vsingers. A lot of the anons who would have participated in the long dead utaite general and similar threads on /jp/ moved over to /vt/ and would discuss them there. There are content creators who are branded primarily as utaites, have vtuber models, and do some content in the flesh. Examples include singers like nayuta or Hanatan, who do their concerts in person in front of a live audience, but now stream using a L2D model. On the other side of the coin, we had singers who were branded as vtubers first, but also do flesh content. Examples include Panno Mimimi, and Yuka Nagase, who have always hid their faces during this type of content.
Some anons were always unhappy about "flesh" contents being posted, and sometimes voiced their displeasure, but as long as you just ignore bait, it was never an issue. Who can say if those types of posts were always reported, or they only started being reported recently. However, the moderation team decided that this kind of content fell under what is known as /vt/ rule 2 - No Real Life, and started enforcing against these kinds of posts. I was always under the impression that this rule was to prevent spreading of private or personal information, not the activities of said creators on their own channels and official accounts. After all, you can see someone like Kson's face plastered all over the board. Perhaps they are just deleting the posts because they can't read Japanese, they don't understand the content, or most likely they just don't care.
I can only speak for myself here, but Jp music is the main reason I got into vtubers in the first place. That is my true passion, and I've been focused on Jp music since before vtubers existed. This was my primary board before /vt/ was created, and now I'm trying to come back to where I came from and start a new thread for these discussions. I honestly believe that this board is a better place to talk about such activities anyway. We would not have to vaguepost about the singers and producers that we enjoy, even if they sometimes show their hands (or even their faces.) It's truly on-topic for this board in all senses of the meaning. I hope that others will come because their priority is to discuss their love of music. If they don't, I can always go back to quietly enjoying it by myself.

Tenri ceased being Cocoa at the end of 2019, coinciding with the Game-bu controversy. In 2020, new Cocoa debuted, and in late 2021 the original Cocoa Music channel was deleted. Either way you look at it, it's been years. The original fans of Tenri came from one of four places, but I'm sure there is massive overlap here. They were either fans of Cocoa Music, AliA, Game-bu, or Yuugasaki Umi.
A bit of a tangent, but on March 4, Umi announced that she was going on indefinite hiatus. She made her final tweet on April 30, after three years of activity. Shortly after Umi's announcement, Umi asked all of her friends to support Tenri (Tenri and Umi were best friends). After all, Umi's previous identity was as the original seiyuu for Kazami Ryo of Game-bu. A few days before she concluded activities, they released a joint cover of the HIMEHINA song Utakatayo Ikanaide. It's a meaningful and thoughtful song choice, about the fleeting existences in life. Tenri spoke about how it was really special that they had one week together where they were both active. So, it's highly likely a good percentage of Umi's fans moved over to Tenri's channel. While Umi nuked her streams, the videos on her channel remain. Just a few days ago, Umi left Tenri a nice letter congratulating her on her one month anniversary and wishing her the best of success.
In May, Tenri spoke about her lofty ambitions for subscriber counts. Specifically, she wanted to reach 40k subscribers by the end of May, and 300k subscribers by the end of the year. It's an extremely ambitious goal, with very little chance of success, but she seemed positive about it, and it didn't seem she would be deterred if she couldn't make it. After all, she had to know how difficult it would be. There is only one path to 300k subscribers in such a short time, and it's through the YouTube shorts algorithm. The thing is, people who subscribe to channels because of shorts don't translate to loyal, nor paying viewers.
In my honest opinion, if you want to be a streamer, it's much better to incline naturally through your streaming contents. Focus on the fans that you have that are cheering for you every day, and new ones will come naturally. She was around 900 ccv for last nights stream, which is now sitting at 8k views. I hope that she can learn to cherish what she has, and have a strong 2023 without this 300k goal looming over her. The subscribers will come naturally over time. She can push herself as hard as she wants, but there is no way she will get 20k subscribers in the next week. Such things will only lead to burnout, and I hope she can learn this lesson sooner than later.

In July, AliA will hold their 5th anniversary live this year at Line Cube Sibuya. They also did some acoustic lives on TikTok(?) last month. I've never really used TikTok in my life, but it is proof of continued activities. As for what she considers full time or part time, it's hard for me to say. But for now, AliA is carrying on. Their last MV was released in January. With the current output of activities, I don't see why she can't do both.

It's a good way to capitalize on certain audiences, because not many are streaming at this time. In fact, nobody else I'm subbed to on YT is singing right now. As Yoshika always said, the people who are watching her in the middle of the night on weekdays have nothing better to do. It's not morning for me personally, but I always have music on while I'm working. Luckily, not many people talk to me at work, and wearing headphones is normalized here. It's probably less common in Japan, but I'm sure there must be some viewers who can work and listen at the same time. It really depends on your job. Of course, I'm sure there are also plenty of hiki/neets/students that can also watch at odd times.

It's best to not force anything.

Maybe it's time to go outside into the real world and do something productive.

There is a global timer for chat messages which takes into account the message length.

How do I get back the previous youtube chat without this pop up thing?

They added and removed it at an earlier date as a test. Turns out the pop will make sure it gets your attention as intended.

I didn't even realize those Satan worshiping emotes existed until I saw people use them.

The real pain is having to scroll through the emotes every time, having to open up this pop up every time with a reset position and it being a lot smaller than the original one and hiding the text dialog.
1 more line of emotes is not the main issue.

My biggest problems with this is that it hides the chat, makes extra clicks required, you cannot see your message, and it makes resizing not functional. For example, I would resize the width of some pop out chats to line up my danmaku in a way that makes it easy to click.
