Does the History Channel Shootout! game servers and irc still exist? That is where I first heard about Touhou before there even was a jay (from an actual neo-nazi no less and one of the most polite people I have ever met either irl. or on the web). Power Bomberman is a nice and free game with tons of characters. There is a gacha system but it's totally free and to get coins you just need to play the game normally. No need to create a server for multiplayer if you don't want to use the main one, create a room and jump in

Most people will find setting up TA Escalation to be too much of a hassle. BUT, I can (and most likey will this Saturday, just to see "i will play anything" anons eat their words with a side of a nuke) host the next best thing.

The game is free, with a small caveat that you will need a email to make an account for multiplayer. We don't have to play against each other since there is 3 cooperative game modes against cpus so doesn't have to be too stressful for new players. Support a total of 16 players. With even more spectors on top of that to boot. It is also optimzed surprisingly well. Though do test if this game will run on your system.

Don't expect touhou skins like BnG or anything like that. But hey, the game has big cool robots. Just pretend that it's mecha (Otaku culture!)

There is some overlap but I don't feel it to be the same. But if you ever played Zero-K, you would know its is kinda its own thing. BAR is more closer to OG TA than Zero-K. It's like Balanced Annihilation, but better i think since its not so micro heavy T1 spam apm mode. Actions are still a factor obviously, but it does shift gameplay the macro planning side more. Not to the extent of SupCom or TA Escalation, but does seem to find a good balance of micro/macro.

The Gensokyo mod for tmodloader I believe. I gave it a try and I didn't like it. It's nice for the theme, but a touhou style bullet hell does not work well with terraria's movement and combat system. Especially before you get wings and better ranged weapons as they're all small fast targets that hit hard.

Can't really confirm this myself though. Anyway, if not, I'll look into hourly server hosting services. Seems pretty cheap for a night of games, and I think you can deal with the server shit via ssh, which I have some experience with. More of a pain, but whatever. Hey I actually got it to work somewhat! Only problem is all the Chinese dialogue shows up as question marks. now all I need to do is download and install the English translation mod. Even after all this is said and done, installing the mods will be difficult for anons. After installation a "mods" folder showed up in the documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV directory. this is where I put in the .mod folder and the folder containing the files for the mod.

Ugh, there is nothing more frustrating than trying to install mods using Paradox's shitty launcher. I got the Touhou mod + English translation working on a pirated v1.12.10 copy of HoI4. When I tried using the same exact mods I used on another copy of the game on another computer it ended up crashing. Same exact version and mods and despite that it didn't work. Don't know what I did wrong. This is just ridiculous.

Also on the mod itself, even after trying to ignoring my own disgust toward anything made by mainalander. It's still a giant shitshow.
Akyuu's interwar timeline is abandoned, no human faction has a unique focus tree except Aki sisters. No unique focus tree for Yukrari. No paratroopers. No preexisting fort. No leader trait. Generals has some donut steel trait but skills level and balance feel arbitrary (Hakurei has lv 6 Meria for example. While Reimu hersellf is level 9 it can only command 12 division instead of usual 32). Every major faction is mini HRE. They don't have cool Daiyousei picture so they used DIYUSI as some event background. And the worst crime of all is that they have portraits for minor pc98 characters for their own faction but they never appear in the game.
Pic gives a general idea of map gore and scale of war. Each division has 4 battalions and has 100 manpower per battalion. Since this is the abandoned scenario as demonstration every large faction here (except SDM, Myouren Temple and tanuki faction in south west) will brick itself in some way in the main scenario.
Also battle line system has no place in Gensokyo. As much as the mod scale it down it still feel ridiculous. Unless there is 4+ anon willling to host or play just to check out what the events in the focus tree do, I will stop investigating this mod here. I would rather play that Era game for Touhou themed strategy.

It's pretty easy, just open \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV and create a mods folder inside, then input the directory and the .mod file.

It's as simple as that really. All the relevant config files and such would be in the "svencoop" folder.

Playermodels are clientside for the mostpart, anyone joining would need to download them separate I believe. A touhou model pack was made when /jp/ played a couple years ago, have everyone get that first if you can find it.
It also might be worth making a map pack download, just so people aren't stuck downloading everything directly from the server. Worth noting that it may try to download everything you have installed, so consider a fresh install, or simply use the dedicated server in the tools section of your steam library.

The biggest issue with that is that the best modpacks tweak and intertwine mods seamlessly to make things balanced, and just tossing in a touhou mod would very likely screw with that. (To say nothing of the few touhou mods that exist having issues already anyway.)

When you run the launcher make sure you check mark the "Update" box.
Again, you will need a email of some form for multiplayer.

You have some simple options in the menu, but the REAL option exist while having a game running. You can start a local game in single player and selecting skirmish. Once the game starts and are in game, you can select options on the top right of your screen (make sure advance view is turned on).

Apart from graphic settings to suite your needs you don't need change anything. I do recommend going into audio tab and and having the "Modern theme" enabled so that the soundtrack doesn't get too repetitive. I will give the sever name and password once i'm ready to host.

People are already going crazy adding actual physics to the game in the snapshot. You can even make danmaku patterns with commands if you’re a math wizard. But tons of mods won’t be compatible with 1.20 or some newer versions. If we’d be playing a modpack it’ll probably be on 1.12.
