I use visual studio code. There's a git guide on the wiki, but I found that just using ordinary git cmd and version control locally was just fine. There's also a workflow image that might help you understand what not to do. Ideally you fork the project, make your changes to it and then submit merge requests when your changes are presentable. It's a relic of the days when that was the only quest that had Law and Chaos routes, and locks so much specific shit behind it that it throws off other quests. Like you cant get Rise and Naoto in the Persona 4 quest because they decided to put them in the DeSu quest, and not for a good story reason you can literally write Rise out of it with no greater impact. Alright I'll try to quickly run down some important mechanics, but there is a lot to learn so keep in mind the best way is just figuring it out yourself or asking specific questions.
Weaknesses are very important, more than just for extra damage. If an enemy hits a weakness on your turn, they get One-More, which is just an extra turn that phase on top of the extra damage from the attack itself so keep an eye on who's weak to what when fighting a boss. If (you) hit a weakness it activates Demon Co-op, which keeping it brief is an extra automatic attack that combines the strength of most if not all of your team into one strong attack and also increases loyalty gain at the end of the fight. Generally if you want someone to join a demon co-op, they need to either be fallen or the same alignment as you.
Alignments in SMT arent the same as DnD alignments. Law is believing in Order and Safety over Freedom and Freewill usually led by Angels, Chaos is the opposite and led by demons, and Neutral is less a middle ground and more "Fuck all of you equally, we can handle ourselves" led by humanity. If you kill demons you encounter that you have copies of on your comp, it gives you Chaos points and if you talk to them so they leave the fight you get Law. Works like scale so if you want neutral and your chaos, spare some demons and you'll crawl to neutral. Light/Neutral/Dark are confusing depending on who you ask, but in eraMegaten it symbolizes your intentions. Light means good, Dark is bad, Neutral is somewhere in the middle. Certain endings require certain alignments, but for the most part just go with what you genuinely believe in.
Make sure you read exactly what the stats do, and keep in mind on a Summoner the Magic stat is completely worthless as Summoners cannot use magic, they should focus on either Str+End or Int+Agi+Luck for Strength and Gun builds respectively

More or less. There are so many different storylines, characters and other shit going on that you just start getting it gradually. It is a bit of a time investment.

Don't think too hard about combat. Just get a general feel for what sets of actions get you through fights so you can just repeat actions for mob fights (i.e. have a healslut, some aoe and a meatshield or two). Keep in mind with so many dungeons, you can easily go through dungeons that are strong enough to give exp but weak enough that you don't have to micromanage every action in fights.

Also, not mentioned thing: humans by default have halved stat calculations. They will hit weaker, be worse with magic and have a constitution of a wet noodle in the beginning. To mitigate it, you get more skill slots and ability to use equipment. Harmonizer program gives humans huge stat boosts but it is a pretty expensive and big size wise, and requires people with Summoner trait to make it function. I believe you would need two people with combined Level 6 of Summoner trait for max bonuses.

The most important thing you can do in the early game is clearing out dungeons.
Dungeons give items, money, fame, characters, programs, and unlock new events, dungeons, and quests.
The best dungeon available from the start is 61. Harajuku. It has lots of good low-level demons to recruit and a save point inside the dungeon. The save point is really great; if you get crit or something and game over you only lose the progress since your last save instead of starting the whole dungeon over.
You get the cutie in picrel for clearing the dungeon. She's a great character and has a huge amount of unique dialogue (I don't know if it's all translated though).
Apart from dungeons, the Colosseum, events, and quests can have very nice rewards and it's good to do them proactively.

Without spoiling anything specific, there's a particular event that you get access to when you pay ￥350,000 to the Phantom Society, and that event has different rewards based on whether you clear that event before the end of Day 20 or not. So a good early game goal would be to get 350,000 yen before Day 21.

NTA should specify, you need to pick her at the start of the dungeon. Her name is Mirai so you know who to pick, Setsuna is the male counterpart. They're great only if you yourself arent a summoner already, otherwise there's no point using them in battle. But if you arent a summoner, they're probably the easiest one to get. And if you want to be *really* technical, setsuna is a better choice statwise becuase female human naturally have a stat bias toward Magic and male humans have a bias toward Strength, and Magic on a summoner is worthless. The folder for dialogue in my install is 95.8 MB of pure text files. Nanako's dialogue alone is 1.3 MB.
For comparison a text file of The Divine Comedy by Dante (the author, not the character in the game who likes pizza) is about 1.2 MB. Obviously a lot of that is code but the dialogue for that one character is still roughly a full length novel.

The eraMC (at least, the versions of them that win the game) aren't necessarily that special on the surface, but they have something in them that pushes them to survive the test where others fail. The cruelty to step on other people, a group of friends that trust them to the ends of the earth, a quick mind that can think their way out of any situation, or even something as mundane as being a really good restaurateur.
What makes them special is defined by the decisions you make as you play the game.

Most decisions in the game have a selfish choice and a selfless choice.
For example, in the Persona 3 storyline, when you save Fuuka, you can either enslave her or let her go free. You can recruit Yukari by enslaving her, or slowly becoming her friend. You can beat the whole game without raping/enslaving/killing anyone, and there are even special endings related to some of those.
Most characters in the game will assume that you are a shit terrible human being because you are a licensed slave trainer who works for a fucking evil nasty awful organization. You may have been recruited against your will but not many people will believe that.
The heroic route is about being a hero when everyone around you expects you to be a villain and being a villain is vastly easier. There aren't any rewards for being a hero except for the knowledge that you did the right thing, even if nobody will ever know it but you.

I heavily disagree because there is certainly a middleground you can achieve with most of them. Why can I not befriend Fuuka when I can befriend the rest of SEES? If it's because she doesnt climb the tower, making the whole time to acquire balancing impossible, just make her awkwardly stick around the bottom floor in the event SEES disbands from you befriending Mitsuru, where you can recruit her because she now has nothing else to really do.

Wait, so they did port it back in! I specifically remember getting what starts that training her, but I got to her wife and nothing ever followed up on it.
