An easy Kanji to remember. The kanji for 'sakura' is made up of the kanji for tree (木) while the kanji for woman (女) is placed next to it under three lines meant to represent falling cherry blossoms. So the kanji for 'sakura' depicts a woman standing under a tree as it rains down cherry blossom petals -- just like in anime!

I always loved that one. The 自 means "self" and the 大 looks like a big gust of wind coming out of the rear-end or ass of the 自. So I just think of my_self_ farting and saying "wow, that stinks."

isn't it STRANGE how Japanese PEOPLE throw themselves in front of trains? (the bottom half is supposed to represent a train coming through a tunnel, and the top half is a Japanese guy preparing to jump in front of it)

奇, the symbol for strange, is made up of the symbol 大, which can mean great or large, above the symbol 可, which can mean acceptable, or ought. So you could say that what is STRANGE is GREATly surpasses what is considered ACCEPTABLE.

I don't know about that. Fellow heisigfag here, and I have to say it often makes it a lot easier to ditch the long winded stories. The stories only need to be remembered for especially difficult kanji. Aside from those, saying "this" on top of "that" actually makes you reinforce the meaning of "this" and "that".
