No, but I don't mind. They're a nice cast and they are—to me—classic Touhou. They are the reason frilly dress + loli + mobcap = Touhou in people's minds. Not to say I wouldn't want another lot of strong characters, but the girls from the first few entries of the windows era are the most memorable and have the lions share of doujin and fanworks.

Hate as a whole? Never.
Hating individual characters? Sometimes, but it's important to differentiate between "Hating" a character, eg. Remilia, because she's canonically an impetulant brat, while still liking her character, and wishing a character never existed, or was radically different in some way.
It's pretty hard to like touhou and hate a given character so much you wish they were retconn'd out of canon or something though, because everyone is kind of an asshole all the time to each other, but not so much as to be unlikeable.

And then there are people who have autistic rage against popular characters as mentioned, eg. Koishi or Flandre.
These kinds of people suck dick, because they want everyone to bow down and draw them kisume getting railed by a giant futa eiki shiki.
These people are in a state of doublethink, simultaniously hating on fanon versions of popular characters, while creating an arguably more annoying and toxic fanon varient of their chosen waifu, eg. Eiki Shiki.
I use Eiki as an example because it's probably the most deranged set of fans i've seen simp over fictional women. I could also use Yuuka fans, but having spent a lot of time in that thread, most of the people are okay, with just a few outliers, which is nothing too unordinary.

This is nothing new, a reaction against something can start from reasonable criticisms, but is always liable to lose sight of itself and unthinkingly jump to the opposite end, which either has problems of a different variety or is even worse than the original position.

No, it's not. Most of the arguments i've seen against koishi have nothing to them, they just really don't like her for some reason. And that's okay, no one is making you like a character, but it's a little weird to write shit where she gets gore'd or beaten up and go on massive haterants whenever she comes up. I don't personally like Koishi all that much more so than any other character, but I don't like seeing her get beat up for being kinda dopey, especially when that's her whole thing. Imagine getting a stray cat to come toward you, petting it and then kicking it over a fence or something.

As I mentioned, it can start from reasonable criticism. That said, many strong feelings, for or against, can come about as a result of personal experiences and associations. Since every Touhou character is judged not only according to canon but also to their overall fanon presence, it is not impossible to imagine that someone might see a great many negative things in Koishi, both for her character and her general reception, while someone else might see nothing there at all. Similarly one might really like a character but really dislike a specific portrayal of a character, causing them to either make go to extremes or simply view those portrayals as symbols of loathsome behaviour. This is my relationship with canon and (the vast majority of) fanon Yuuka.
It's almost surprising that you wouldn't consider my vitriol an outlier.

Agreed. A lot of hateboners are directed at specific fan interpretations, rather than canon itself. It doesn't surprise me that there's so much "your fanon is shit but mine is fine" hypocrisy with a cast this big.
And even without favoritism, there will always be someone who can't help but associate stupid fan shit with the actual character. To them it's impossible to ignore aggravating fanon and the people that perpetuate it, so they lash out in retaliation.
